I do like the look of the Ht r2, but if i can find a sideshow for a really good price I might have to bite and get the sideshow version.

I would love to buy a couple of your custom Jawas mate.. pity I'm broke. :lol

:rotfl

Actually, I would like to have a couple too....i've just about sold them all, except for two. :lol But seriously, I have only two left and one is my display and the other is too big, i think. I want to have a couple for display when these damn droids come out.

Have you got the new SSC ones?

No, I didn't get them...but I would love to see them in hand.

Thought about doing a trade for a custom...just so I can check them out.

That's a real shame. I had the pleasure in meeting Kenny a few times. A very nice down to earth guy.

I currently don't own R2 in 1/6 scale and am debating between this and the SS deluxe version. Are we sure what exactly the HT version will come with? It's hard to say no to the SS R2 with so many accessories for only $120-140 when this one may not come with as much. Ugh. Decisions, decisions. The paint apps on the HT version will surely be better, but I'm just not sure.

Well if that's not enough choice in the marketplace, note that Tomashii is back on with their R2 companion piece to the die cast 3PO!

If I didn't already own SS's I'd be waiting for HT's production pics to hit before I decided. SS's is nice but has an overall "plasticy" toy look and feel to it and the opening panels aren't that nice looking. HT may not come with as much stuff but if it looks better on the shelf that's what really matters to most.

The SSC R2 is a mixed bag - it's a great sculpt and the light-up feature works amazingly well (very easy to use too,) but there are panels/hatches which fall open too easily, and many people said that this and its light weight made it feel "cheap/plasticky." The paint apps also weren't great - and overall weathering spray just seemed to dull everything (dome especially) as opposed to specific weathering, and the HT sandies really shows what HT can do with weathering.

That being said, some isopropyl alcohol does an incredible job restoring a true metallic sheen to the SSC dome, and the weight/hatches thing is really a non-issue because the figure spends 99% of its time sitting on display.

The HT is a real metal dome and it looks truly superb, and the choice of blue seems closer to accurate. However its sculpt of the lights/"eye" area isn't quite accurate (SSC is much closer,) though probably not noticeable to the average collector. With metal dome, lights and sounds features, and the fact it's coming a couple of years later, the HT R2 will surely be noticeably higher in price than the SSC, likely around $200+ versus $150 (full retail - the SSC R2 can be easily had for cheaper than that.)

Also, Tamashii is supposedly finally going to release their (presumably full metal) version of R2D2 to go with their 3PO - another version to keep in mind.
