I must admit, $220 for this is really hard to understand. I mean if it opened and he had all the tools, a projector beam that worked, the skiff tray from ROTJ and rockets from AOTC, I would still say $220 is too much.

When was the last time you saw a Hot Toys price and went, "yeah, that seems reasonable"?

It wouldn't have any of that other stuff 'cause it's TFA. Stay tuned for more editions of this mould :)

Agreed. I have no use for it, but it makes more sense here than with pretty much any other figure. Hell, I bought a 3 3/4" R2 once that had a noise feature built in.

Yeah if it's going to have lights, it might as well have the sounds too. And it's no more pointless than all the other accessories these figures usually come with that I never use and have a huge box full of by now.

Well I think that's a bit different, because you can theoretically pose a figure all kinds of ways, and leave it there to look at and have it looked at. The voice and lights is something you'll use once in a blue moon, but is more of a "play" function that doesn't apply so much to high end collectibles IMO. But in terms of something that is usually excessive, I agree with you. We do often get more than we need.

Truthfully the lights and sounds are of more use to me on a character like R2 than half the things that came with the Sideshow version. About the only accessory I use is Obi-Wan's table with the Leia hologram.

THe HT Snowie I thought was reasonably priced - given the context of where we are, and that it was a little cheaper than SSC's current trooper pricepoint.

Yeah, don't think I ever even took the arms out of the packaging clamshell. I do however use the drinks tray all the time - it's an amazingly accurate and engineered design - major kudos to SSC for that articulated server arm too.:clap

The table/hologram is about 1/3 too small, which was a pretty silly choice, but then again, most of HT Yoda's accessories are also noticeably undersized.

I wonder will the sounds be some guy making beep-boop noises instead of the actual sounds from the movie - like what they did with ED-209.

I missed that one :)

I just posted this in the SS R2 thread, Jamesthecat's sand-and-repaint. If the current dimension specs are right, the only improvement this HT version seems to offer is a better dome. It'll probably feel more robust in hand too. Looking at this pic it's hard to not just decide to do the same with my SS...

Likely my Sideshow will remain and I will also pass on the HT.

I suppose it all depends on the Threepio they offer. If the two HT figures look better together than the two SS figures, then I'll swap.

If it had the rockets , I would be out

I wouldn't mind having two versions of R2-D2 and C-3PO. One TFA/new trilogy and one set for OT. I still wish this R2 came with more though, especially for the price.

Yeah judging from this the two can actually look really good together once you weather up the Tama 3PO a bit. It's just when you have a sparking clean diecast 3PO standing next to him that the difference in quality jumps out at you.

The 15 month wait along with hot toys proclivity to tack on additional delays has me far less interested in this R2 now. The sideshow looks pretty good and costs a fraction. Maybe I'll still pick it up but one of these days I'll need to follow through on my threat to stop buying so many ****ing toys.

The problem is twofold. The materials side by side are extremely apparent and the Hot Toys R2 will minimize that. But then immediately the other problem pops up again. R2 is weathered and Tama 3PO ain't. It's a good situation to be in though as that could finally be the time to say goodbye to the Tama is if Hot Toys releases a nice weathered Tatooine 3PO. Given how many unique Iron Men they've made I think they'll tweak the body and give us the proper look.

I think I might display Sideshow's R2 with the drink tray after I get the Hot Toys version.

Yeah but I still think it looks decent enough to use despite being too small.

Just bought the SS PFs thankfully I don't have to deal with the 1/6. Not that theirs isn't cool but they all look amazing.

$220? What a great deal, especially when you factor in the likeness rights!

Still, not as good a deal as $200 Yoda.

With the people the HT was and is far ahead but with the droids I don't think it's much better or worth an extra $100. Just features many will not use there or not.

With that said they did do a great job of course.

You have to wonder whether HT had to secure any likeness rights other than Fisher's for their crappy humans line.

If SS had not made a R2, i'm sure we would all complain about the price but most would still pick it up because it would be the only one. But since there is another much cheaper choice with more display options this one (IMO) is not worth it. I picked up my SS R2 for $100 and it looks fine, the HT looks better but not near enough to drop $220 on it.

I am looking forward to the HT C3PO as that is all that is missing in my Star Wars collection
