One of my earliest memories, was those basic roll tickets...for that first Star Wars film my parents took me and I remember a green-blue colour. And a poster of a Sandtrooper on a Dewback staring me down in the lobby. With "big kids" goofing around and yelling "Take me to your leader". They seemed so sophisticated and worldly. :lol

:lol

If I were a true genius back then I would have bought myself a roll of tickets and just used those.

still thinking about scale....

R2:

medicom, SSC, real thing, Premium format, Tamashii

3PO:

tamashii, SSC, real one, PF, Tamashii

I believe the better scaled couple of droids are the Premium format version (maybe R2 is too large!).

Second to that, I think is Sideshow R2. Hot Toys hopefully will not be smaller. The scale between the two will be similar to SSC droids.

Tamashii and SSC 3PO are very close too.

What are the odds of HT doing OT R2 with his accessories? I know they weren't shown in FA, but you'd think a few would be included with this first release.

I'll wait for the HT OT artoo and threepio, just like I'm patiently waiting for the HT ESB Vader. All good things will come in time to those who wait. :)

Are those just rumored speculation or is there definitive proof they are in production?

I don't think HT will do them again.

Vader? Yes. The droids? No. Only from the most recent film.

That's an interesting stance, Cap. Why do you feel that way against everyone's favorite droids, specifically?

If they already have the first version swing at a character and there is more to capitalize on them with variants, I wouldn't feel that way at all about any reusable character. Where there is money there is variants, always.

I would be very surprised if a set of ANH dirty droids with escape Pod, ESB dismantling and rebuildable droids with carry sack, and ROTJ ewok celebration with wooden throne and spring loaded launching lightsaber set don't all get released at one point or another. ;)

The issue with 3PO is that the TFA sculpt is a little "fatter" - the overall body - than his slender frame in the OT (especially ANH.) So while Vaders have differences, they are mostly restricted just to the finish of individual armor pieces or small tweaks like the chest triangle.

With an OT 3PO, you'd have to change the body sculpt as well as the "wires" abdomen area. Given that HT is specific enough to issue a newly done ROTJ OT stormie (vs. the ANH stormie,) maybe they'd be willing to resculpt so many aspects of 3PO, but 3PO in general is a much slower seller than stormie variants, which seem to always sell out pretty quickly.

Sideshow's 3PO - still in stock a year later. Sideshow's R2 - still in stock two years later. Yeah, 3PO had the thumbs and R had the hatches, but they look pretty damn good overall and are quite a bit cheaper than the HT versions.

This follows the Medi versions hanging around for years, and the still-amazing Tama one taking over a year to sell out on SSC (though you could get it cheaper elsewhere.)

Dunno - I think the demand for 3PO/R2 just isn't too high compared to the Vaders and troopers, so they've covered themselves by making their 3PO and R2 the versions from Ep VII and VIII - making them "of the moment."

I'd likely buy HT versions of OT R2 and 3PO, but I don't think it's a 100% guarantee they'll make them. But PT 3PO and R2? Less than zero chance.:lol

Yeah, PT is probably unlikely but you're acting like you know their planned runs of TFA R2 and 3PO and the editions of any of those past runs. You probably noticed that RO Vader sold out super quick, and that was before the movie came out and while the ANH was still hanging around.

They might be making very few TFA R2s knowing they're planning to make more. If it sells out shortly after release it means more are coming. If it seems like it's hanging around forever then they made a glut in which case it perhaps you guys are right. I just think the lack of accessories on R2 is a clear sign an OT version is coming.

After already 3-4 others of each in the past decade, coming to the conclusion that these are the only pair of HT droids we'll get seems a bit foolish. Maybe it'll be five years but still can't see them just doing one and done when they can re-use the molds as others mentioned.

Yeah I get that they needed to expand the actual 3PO costume for Daniels in the movie, but was it really necessary for HT to do the same with the figure? This is one time when I think people would have been perfectly fine with them idealizing things a bit, and making him look more like the slender 3PO of the earlier films.
