Sideshow's 3PO - still in stock a year later. Sideshow's R2 - still in stock two years later. Yeah, 3PO had the thumbs and R had the hatches, but they look pretty damn good overall and are quite a bit cheaper than the HT versions.

This follows the Medi versions hanging around for years, and the still-amazing Tama one taking over a year to sell out on SSC (though you could get it cheaper elsewhere.)

Dunno - I think the demand for 3PO/R2 just isn't too high compared to the Vaders and troopers, so they've covered themselves by making their 3PO and R2 the versions from Ep VII and VIII - making them "of the moment."

I'd likely buy HT versions of OT R2 and 3PO, but I don't think it's a 100% guarantee they'll make them. But PT 3PO and R2? Less than zero chance.:lol

Well, I guess that might explain why it took so long to get around to them. I understand Vader outselling everyone else, but the Stormtroopers? Yes, they're extremely iconic and look great alongside Vader, but for that kind of money, I'd rather have the main cast of characters to then nameless and faceless drones.

I saw this pic in a budget stark video.

Anyone care to take any guesses on HT R2's scale -- based on the above photo?

If anyone has the Rey/BB two-pack and the SS R2, they could duplicate the pic and compare. As it is, it's pretty hard to tell.

Why do they keep putting out TFA versions when the fans want OT?
I kinda know but seriously do they think we will buy them all as placeholders until then?

Some might. Some will. Id say MOST ALL would buy OT.

Somewhere in there I think you answered your own question. An OT version now would kill the TFA. TFA doesn't necessarily kill OT.

if someone has a chance to measure this guy, when he is on 2 legs, I would be grateful...

It is tallest when he stands on 2 legs, and I would like to confirm if the 179 mm Hot Toys presents in the details are accurate...

This. I'd get this cause I don't even know the difference between the 2 versions. (Hypothetically since I'm broke af and can't buy either in reality :lol)

It's not like vader who has very distinct looks, or chewbacca that has different styles. R2 is.. Just R2 and I'd rather get this one with the metal dome than the SS one that's based on the OT.

Some people like army building. Or like to make a display. Can't really beat the "Vader with 2 stories behind him" look either.

That's likely because SSC has an R2 and 3PO from the OT. HT wants to make them so the way to get people to buy is to make TFA versions. I don't have a R2 or 3PO so I will get HTs.

Bring a caliper as well. The measurements of this figure will decide many sales in the future. :lol
