I might also wait on another version, but r2 isn't Vader. Who knows how long you might be waiting? They can pump out incredibly complex robotic figures at will, but took this long to give us a single droid.

For the price they should have included Kenny Baker as an accessory...

well at least he has wheels...

Is this the most basic figure from Hot Toys ever? (accessories wise?)

A base and a backdrop would have been nice to include with this figure. It might have been the incentive for those on the fence!! (like me)
I elected to pass on Yoda and go with R2 to be displayed with my DX Luke. But now I'm not to sure. Maybe use the funds for a human likeness...ie Anakin?

Yup I agree with this. The HT even had this off putting yellowed appearance that makes it look like an old toy that's been left in the sun.

Whoever would have thought that we'd get a HT Artoo and a Tamashii Artoo within a few months of each other and neither of them seem like good replacements for the Sideshow?

This might just be the first time people in here are preferring an older SS figure to the newer and flashier HT version. :D

Gotta agree. We still could use more confirmation but so far everything is leaning towards HT not outdoing SS for once. Some improvements in detail, but I'm not a top R2 expert so I'm not sure what's even accurate between ANH & TFA.

The one thing that I did notice right away in the side by side is the yellowish hue, which I think is way off for OT R2. Not even sure if that's accurate for TFA. Think HT just botched that. It's even hard to tell the true color in the blogger pics because it varies, but I think this first side by side is enough to see that the color is off.

I'll probably get one only because I can get it under retail, but I see no reason to get rid of SS's. I still love the features & accessories, even if they doors are a little loose.

Not much of an improvement over the Sideshow version. I like the dome, but not enough to spend $220+ on it.

I'll definitely pick up their C-3PO though. Hopefully Hot Toys doesn't botch the hands like Sideshow did.

I have decided to keep this. If nothing else he is the only character of any franchise so lovable that I might park him on my breakfast bar just for fun. Guests might even find the remote sound mildly amusing. When they eventually make the OT version I'll probably just get it too :slap :dunno

..imagine if HT got the wrong arm red...lol

actually, I thought the red-arm was the most contrived part of EP VII (one of many contrived parts...but the most annoying to me...not sure why)
