True. There's a lot more stuff with the SS R2 but there's no value in it for anybody like me who has never taken a single piece out of the box for display except the figure and the table. But even the table isn't accurate and looks pretty cheap.

I'm much more interested in a tighter looking R2 without the terrible panel seems...and I like the remote controlled lights and sound effects.

Yeah, that's more or less my perspective. Flawed though it may be, it's really nice, and you know there will be no contest vs. Ssc in terms of quality. And I won't bother with something unless it's high quality at this point.

Speaking of TFA, plenty believe that an OT version is inevitable... but I'm not so sure. If it were a strong likelihood then that makes it even easier to pass on this one.

Theres a crowded field for R2s for sure. They'd be betting resources on brand recognition alone I think. Could have a potential peg warmer for a HT main character. Perhaps the other markets aren't so crowded?
This thing looks super cool, but I think I'm sticking with Tamashii.

As different as ANH vs. ESB Vader is. And yes, film-specific attachments like the SS R2.

I don't think they will do an ANH specific R2... but I do believe they will release a generic OT R2 with all the arms he had for all three OT films plus the serving tray... again, just like SS did.

That way HT gets to reuse the R2 form multiple times: TFA, OT, TLJ ... and of course the inevitable Ep. 9

Yep, I have no doubt HT will produce an OT version. Probably just how Wor-Gar said. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they released an ANH two pack with 3PO.

I wonder how long until they color variant Astromechs. I mean we got a Porcelain Stormtrooper, I can't imagine that we wouldn't have multi-colored droids too.

I know there's a black R2, because I bought my daughter the toy. That seems like a no brainer. And there was the pink one for the little girl with cancer made years back. Would be a nice way for HT to do something for a good cause. And of course, we'll need an Iron Man colored version, and Joker colored version.

There are so many versions that there are collectors that focus on them lol. I think there was the R1 matte black prototype shown before but since it's screen time went down the toilet I don't know if HTs will make him... plus SSC has him. I'm waiting for a discount on that one.

I've took some pictures of my sideshow version at the side of HT's.
It is better than the SS version ? Yes
but is it £200 pounds better ? probably not but the dome looks really nice with it been metal and it's just better executed than SS one.
You feel abit cheated when you first open the HT's one because that's all there is in the box no weapons,no different heads,no hands, no stands and you feel I've just spent £200 pounds for this.

Yes looks alright better than the SS pure white look
The blue is lighter on the HT's version as well which you probably have noticed
