Have to display my R2 with Luke and Leia until HT releases 3PO

I just got home from a looong day at work; it's too dark for a decent snapshot and I haven't bothered putting the batteries in.

First impressions:

I owned the SSC R2 and liked it. This one (late, after a long day at work) appears to kick its plastic butt.

Better feel, better build, dome completely outclasses SSC.

Weathering is a touch heavy-handed here and there, lack of any opening panels is lame, but expected given the HT business model.

Ratchet joints are nice, looks just a touch bigger than SSC, looks very good next to DX07.

Is there room for improvement? Yes.

Is it better than SSC? Yes, IMO.

Will there be a better HT release based on the OT? More than likely.

Do I feel the need for the Tama? No. Only because the Tama dome is plastic.

Should you upgrade from SSC? Finances allowing, probably. That dome. But only if you can't be bothered waiting on an OT release.

I passed on every HT Vader and feel good about it, because I want an ESB Vader. I feel fine snapping up this ST R2, to enhance DX07 for the time being.

I opened my R2 last night (love it!), and my dome seems to have a short in it, or something. When you turn the switch "on", the three projectors flash quickly, but ultimately go out. Eventually the lights all activate, and the touch button is very responsive. When the lights are working right, the sound seems to work as well, though on occasion, some of the sounds are muffled. There's not really a pattern to any of it. When it works, it's pretty awesome. When it doesn't, it's somewhat frustrating.

So is it a dome issue or the remote? I'm having issues with my sound not working. The lights work fine though.

Not sure, they sent me a new dome that they said they checked, but no new remote or batteries. So I don't know if they just checked to make sure the lights worked and didn't bother to check the sound or if the remote is only coded to a single dome (which I doubt). I'm hoping it's a battery issue because when I was troubleshooting my R2 I put the batteries back in my 1st dome and the sound didn't working either. I'll get some new batteries then try it before I contact SS again. It's just a pain in the butt having to deal with this BS.

Put the batteries in today. The projectors flashed when I put the switch in the 'on' position; everything seems to work fine. For now.

The lights and sounds are a fun gimmick, but if I have one gripe is that the LEDs are blinding.

Mine did the same thing when I first put the batteries in. I took them out and reinstalled them and the light worked just fine. Now the remote was a different story. I got it to cycle through all the sounds once and it hasn't worked again except one brief chirp.

Definitely helps me remain steadfast in waiting for the OT version... though I have little faith the electronics will be any better, likely the same.

Its gotten to the point that figures with any electronics but a light-up saber are now viewed as a detriment and potential problem.

Did you leave the switch ON? This happened to me and it was because batteries were enough to power lights, but not sound. I bought new batteries and all is well.

Now i only turn it on when I want to show it to someone or enjoy myself.
