I'd hate to encourage you to spend twice, since you're buying the Tamashi, but this is the one I've been waiting for. For me the metal dome sells it as a high quality mini R2. The weathering is oxidized looking with hints of rust, it just looks good. I purchased the Rythym R2 action alarm clock and so when the Sideshow R2 came out it seemed like a more precise version of a plastic toy. This HT version looks like a high quality collectible and it brings out the best in my other figures, particularly my Stormtroopres with the 3D printed ANH helmets.
So my recommendation is if you don't mind spending twice definitely pick this up. I suppose they will make another down the road but I've been waiting on this a long time and I'm completely satisfied. None of the downsides are real downsides for me. I never liked the third leg pose so I rarely use it. I might pick up the Sphyro just because I'd like to see it move around on my dio's.
It does look a really nice piece. I'm really tempted to pick this up as R2 has always been a special character for me. The Tama R2 that I've ordered will be displayed with my Tama 3PO and nothing else, as they are both clean versions. The only thing that's stopping me from getting this, is the possibility of HT bringing out an OT version but I'm not really sure that there would be enough difference in that version to be worth me waiting for it. I mean is there any real obvious differences?
I'd look into if you got a misaligned one then because compared to all other R2's I've ever owned, this is the first one that has ever nailed his three leg stance. His feet on the side legs have to be positioned at their most extreme forward angle & it'll achieve the perfect R2 rolling stance. View attachment 366574

^^fantastic pic/set up!
the projector on all the time when lights are goin is really bothering me lol
could black it out with a small piece of circular lens matching color paper ey?
yes i agree. Mine seems too go into the three legged stance perfectly. Really great pic and poses there Rudimus. WOW!
Which C3P0 is that? Looks awesome.
The lack of a stand hurts the OCD in my head...
Yeah, honestly that Chewy would bother me a lot more than a missing stand. Maybe if you had a small paper bag to put over his head?
Exactly! I guess there are some differences you could pick apart, I'm not going to harp on them or bother to look for more because I am totally satisfied with this. I wanted a wider, taller more detailed R2 with a metal dome and blinking lights and sound. I got exactly what I was hoping for. Sure, the projector light thing is a bummer, but not really, it's not like I leave it sitting with the lights on. i like that they made the body out of plastic because they could get more detail with plastic.
Despite it's short comings..the shiny metal dome of this r2 looks glorious next to the Tamashii 3po..He looks great with Tama Threepio though!!
Surprise!!! There's me in the mirror LOL!!!
