Getting mine next week. Will look cool with Luke, Han and Chewwie.

No base? no extras? Guess they will make a 2.0 R2D2 for ANH or ESB soon.

Yup. No base. The only extra you get is the remote for the sound which is actually quite cool. I tricked my 8 year old daughter and made her ask questions to R2. Told her that R2 would respond to any of her questions every time. So I clicked the remote (hidden from her) every time and she was amazed. Hahaha!

Nice shots Bikerscout.

Thanks Steve! :)

so, since my kitchen has a colour pattern that can remind of that of the Tantive IV, I "set the droid loose" around the kitchen and took some photos.

This is the Tamashii C-3PO and the Hot Toys TFA R2-D2.

After posing it a bit, I am finding that the issue with R2 arms being too open, is not as big an issue as I initially got the impression.

These 2 droids, together, just make you wow nonstop.

now my biggest issue with R2 is the lights system.

There is a mistake, having the proyector lights (in plural) always on, and then the blinking rythm is too simple.

I don't mind having opening parts on the body but HT could have at least added a pop-up periscope and a magnetic restraining bolt. The lights sequence is a minor thing but HT should have also made the same as SS. Panel lights first then projector. Other than that, I still find the HT best among its counterparts, SS & Tamashii.

HT dome is just awesome.

Beautiful shiny metal dome...:love...Nice pics para:clap

for me, the lights issues are very important.
It makes me think that this R2 could have been 50?, 30?, USD less and include no sounds and no lights.

Then again, it looks great especially in photos.

I am displaying these two in the shelves near my computer.... they really pop out.

Wow, awesome pics, Parras!

Can you post a pic of your Tama 3PO in a neutral/straight-on pose right next to your HT R2 in two-leg mode?

I want to try and do an eye mod for R2.

I think R2 can benefit from making the lights on the front of the dome less shiny. Not talking about the red and blue, but about the other lights (proyector, panels).

I want to have a look inside the dome. If electronics are simple, I will try to:

1.- make the lights on the front, side panels, darker. Blueish, and darker.
2.- make the panels on the back, darker. Greenish, and darker.
3.- turn off all 3 proyectors.

So we'll see....

Para,

I don't think it's necessary to change the light pattern. Unless you'll be using the R2 in a short film/video or home movie focusing on the R2. Although it's doable, I still would just leave it as is to keep it original. But hey, it's your unit so it's all up to you.

Show us your finished project when done.

Cheers!

....Hey, I got this figure last week and shot a detailed review on it complete with several comparisons to other R2 releases. There is a lot of other fun stuff on this video but if interested the HT R2 review starts about 8:45 in.

2 quick pictures of my "eye mod".

I only did the colour and brightness change on the front and back panels.

hi! I used these:
