It was stated somewhere that Hot Toys doesnt put their lead sculptors on most of their game figures. They let the up and coming artist try and prove themselves. This figure is kind of a let down.

If true it's a damn shame. HT VG line deserves as much attention and detail as their MMS series. With the exception of Sheva, most of HT's RE5 line sold pretty well it seems and Jill I think had just as much if not more potential to sell better than any of the other RE figures if the headsculpt was more accurate. I mean the head looks decent to good depending on the lighting but there is almost no detail whatsoever on it. It almost looks like the sculptor based ther likeness on HQ 3D renderings from early RE games.

Hiroki Hayashi-san, who sculpted Sheva, Silken Floss and now Jill (heads) is not exactly a novice..

One thing thats throwing the off likeness in these new shots is the bright lights these conventions use at their display booths. How many of us display our figures under the same conditions?

Compare the Hong Kong pics to the dimly lit Comic Con display. The light isn't bouncing off the plastic so we can see the detail of her face a bit better. I think that gives a better idea what this will look like in hand.

Actually the difference is that on all the photos in the top row, the photographer used a camera flash. The pic that I took on the bottom there did not have flash used, so there was no harsh contrasty shadows and reflections. I'm shocked at how many ppl I saw at Anicom using flash when taking pics of things behind glass.

Neither the Sheva nor Jill heads are exactly indicative of the accuracy and quality HT are renowned for.

Like I said, clown shoes.

Well, the guy also did the Silken Floss sculpt. That was fairly well-received, right?

currently Jill just looks a little ...generic...and the difficulty obviously is shes a video game character that isn't exactly 1:1 in terms of looking like a real person. Yes - her character design is based on a real person, but her character is a video game person. So when there is even slightly unlikliness, she looks generic to me. Or maybe the word I want to use is "fake".

Like we have Abigail Whistler or Black Widow that are based on movie characters who look like real people (doh - they are real people), so when the likliness is off, at least they still look like the person.

But in Jill's current case, she could easily pass as a barbie doll , just give her a dress and some blond hair.

The video game Jill has a few distinct facial features such that you really dont see now.

Thanks for the pictures wesker! That sculpt is better than the first one.

Agen & Penn where did you get those pictures? Are those captures from a cutscene or gameplay?

I kinda agree with some comments about HT never made an RE figure that completely resembled the actual characters, and the generic look of the new Jill sculpt.

I'm curious as to what material HT uses for their head sculpts. Couldn't they hire a digital sculptor to sculpt the head using the CG files of Jill from RE5?

I pretty much canceled my BW pre-order in favor of Jill here after seeing so many detail reviews of BW...now i'm a bit weary as to what Jill surprises i can expect to see. Chances are I won't get her in my hands before HK receives it, so hopefully that gives me enough time to cancel if Jill turns out to be a dud.

Being a 3d modeler, and used to looking at subtle nuonces of the human head, and compairing a rendered head to a real head, , I 'd like to say the likeness is there. it's Not spot-on, but its there. the most "off part is the nose, but that's NOT what's killing it. it's the paintwork. the game model has subtle realistic nuonces, such as freckles, skin tone and texture, etc. those are missing from the headsculpt.

I'd be very interested to see this head with a repaint.

I agree. The head has virtually no paint detail whatsoever. Like I said I'm tempted to purchase a second head and try adding some details like light freckles and maybe some light darkening around the eyes.

Interesting thought you got there lerath666. Maybe a repaint would fix it. I hope HT's reading this thread.
