Would anyone out of curiosity still get a RG without Emperor just for the sake of having a RG?

Most definitely. For some reason, even as a kid I always associated the guards more with Vader than the Emperor. Mine will stand alone or possibly two flanking Vader.

I will get a guard no matter what. They were always one of my favorites as a kid. The Emperor didn't do much for me until ROTS, believe it or not.

That head sculpt is spot-on. Everyone's criticisms stem purely from the fact that we rarely saw this character outside of certain lighting conditions and under a hood--one that hasn't been properly draped over his head in any of the preview photos.

I think that's what they are going for. Especially considering they are including hands with bolts, maybe even ones with light up features as they figured out the lower arm electronic function for their lit sabres. BUT, they haven't nailed that sculpt yet as it resembles a smile more than a sneer IMO. Maybe in the new PO pics.

On the bright side the headsculpt for TLJ Luke was a drastic improvement than what was shown at the cons, so hopefully the pre order pics for Palps will be drastically improved too. One can hope.

I wish I could agree man. Would loved for them to nail OT emperor

Yeah, it could be the pic. But as of now, it looks like he made a boom boom on his throne and he's happy about it.

There's certainly merit in the argument that you can't judge of a few select photos, etc., but at the same time, that limited selection is all people have to talk about and form opinions off of, so even if you disagree with those opinions and think they're rushed with too little to support it, you can't blame people for having them. I'm sure every user here would love to have more and better looks the figure to really get a sense of how well it turned out or not, but unfortunately, this is all we have right now.

I seem to recall this very same forum grousing over the head sculpt for Sideshow's version, and yet now, seven years later, it's lauded as definitive and superior to Hot Toys' offering.

It would be nice but wishful thinking. Same with the ROTS Anakin. I was very pleasantly surprised that Yoda came with the terrific alternate closed eye sculpt.
