Am I the only one who doesn't need the Emperor to go with these guys?

More likely they are human shields. Just to buy him or Emperor some time to get on feet and start the living hell.

I always thought of them as just there for show. As if to make people think the emperor was old and couldn't protect himself.

If we take into account the information from the OT and the PT, no one knew Palpatine was a SITH. The Death Star council scene is a clear indication that Admiral Motti thought Vader was the last practicing member of his ancient religion and never would have disrespected the Force if he thought the Emperor was part of that religion.

I also think the guards were Palpatines spies. Only there to keep an eye on Vader and report back if he was able to heal himself and become stronger than the emperor. Rule of two and all.

That makes sense. I do wonder though, wouldn't Vader be more powerful than the emperor? I mean if he actually tried? It seems to me that he was so manipulated by the emperor and had feelings of conflict that he never tried (that is until he tried to convince Luke to join him to take down the emperor, though I don't know if that was a ruse). It is a shame we never really got to see how powerful Vader became (though Rogue One shows some hint of it).

From what i have seen and read Vader was weaker than the emperor due to all his injuries and a crappy suit. Anakin was more powerful than the emperor but Obi Wan ended that.

He's only got about 1/5 of the midichlorians that he started with.

There was some EU details on this subject in the DARTH Bane books but it's not necessarily canon. Only a full flesh SITH can truly become a master of all the SITH arts because life creates the force as yoda tells us. So the more flesh you have the more control and mastery over the force and the SITH arts you would potentially have. Chiefly lightning. You can have some mechanical parts but it was said that Vader was more machine than man so he never lived up to his full SITH potential.

Besides the fact that if the emperor used SITH lightning on him it would short out his life support system and Vader would be dead before he could get to Palpatine.

Exactly. Vader was a bad ass and was still a brute force to be reckoned with but if he stayed all or mostly flesh he could have become the most powerful SITH to ever live. Maybe.

Looks like they're persisting with the Imperial Fleet Trooper and the CONSOLE !! Which is great. About time HT did a couple of accessories like that.

He is called Death Star trooper. Just to be clear. And avoid any more confusion than is floating around by now (trooper/gunner).

It really stands out with the all red outfit. I'm trying to resist but it does look great.

The Red does look great. Just hoping for a decent price, or as a two pack for the normal price. Can't be too far away from an official release now. Maybe May 4th ?
