Depends on what you consider a good living. $35-50,000 annually is the normal. That isnt all bad I guess if you really love what you do. Back to the point though, which is that these sculptors arent making millions. They have phenomenal skills and talents. The price of the figures is what they are because people are willing to pay it. I do agree with you though that they are a much smaller producer than the mass market. Dont get me wrong guys I am not at all knocking Hot toys, only saying that there is still room for more accurate scaling, thats all, nothing more than that I think they are amazing and love the figures they are putting out.

Only issues I had with scale within Hot Toys line is the slight differences with some of there head sculpts. Sometimes their head that has a sculpted neck tends to be a bit bigger than a head without a sculpted neck. Examples of such to me are Bank Robber/DX Joker to a HT Bruce Wayne, Blade head sculpt to HT Wolverine etc. Either than that, no biggie.

Scale accuracy wise, I think Hot Toys is pretty good compare to Sideshow.
I haven't seen two PFs in same scale. And they are suppose to be all 1/4 scale!
plus none of the comiquettes are in same scale. :slap

ok, I know I exaggerated a little, but I'm sure you guys could agree that, some are really bad. :lol

In terms of 1/6 I think Sideshow is at the head of the pack for scale. The Pro, 1.1 and 1.1 modular bodies are one of the best ideas in a long time.

Well HT has been getting better and better especially in the last couple of years, I don't think we're too far off from 2-3 different body size templates, to go with the muscle/non-muscle bodies.

The prices on these things will inevitably reach the $250 mark before long, but as long as quality sees a similar uplift (which it has been so far), I guess i'll still be buying figs for that much.

Would love to have a look at HT's actual accounts though, see how much they really pay their suppliers/artists/licensing fees etc., would actually be quite interesting.

they do a good job on scale imo. predators are bigger than humans and Navi from Avatar will be bigger than predators.

Yes HT are doing a great job for the most part and long may it continue - I just hope Enterbay / Medicom / Others would get their act together and provide some genuine competition, then we'll see both price and quality move in a favourable direction.

And there are always areas for improvement - better scale accuracy is just one of them.

Absolutely well said intothevoid. Competition is good for the health of any industry. It forces companies to never compromise if they want to be the absolute best. I wont be so eager to pay premo prices without voicing my opinion on things that can be done better. That should go for anything.
