There's this really risky rabbit hole of collecting that just becomes the chase and acquisition rather than the curation and appreciation of your pieces.
Yup. Although I understand that everyone collects differently. I myself have got rid of pieces I enjoyed, in order to enjoy other pieces even more. Just the way my brain works. I start with too much and remove elements until I feel what's left is really 'potent' for lack of a better word. That's also how I approach art and design.
If you go the extra mile to present your collection for the things you appreciate about it, people will see that; but you have to take the time to curate and love it. I don't wear or use a purse, but I love to hear from women who do. They always discuss these intricate aspects of stitching, design, etc.
So my girlfriend has some mildly nerdy tendencies although she's not really -- but she loves fashion, design and art, digs a good superhero or Star Wars movie, notices details on costumes and sculpts, and is able to have an intelligent conversation with me about sixth scale figures, which is nice. As you say, it's nice to be able to share a dialogue on things you're passionate about even if it's not your wheelhouse.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk haha. That started as an environment discussion and expanded into some musings on what I've gathered and learned in recent months.
I dig it. *snap* *snap* *snap*
