Its a quandary: part of me resents whenever people use other people's stuff for their purposes (in fact I get a little riled when people barf up: "what's the recipe") but then I also feel that "anything you post can be used against you in a court of law". If you want to keep something private, don't share on a public forum where it remains for life -- and literally shows up on google. Just send it privately to friends.

I agree with the second part. I'm in the camp that we are all fans here, and if I post anything it's also by default for the help of others. If they want to make something themselves based off my work then I have no issue answering any questions. All the customisers are pretty much of the same mindset in my experience.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Snowspeeder Luke had a sign in front of it "pending approval", so while that is probably just a standard sign to say it's not going up for pre-order now, I can't see any reason why this should not go up at an appropriate time later this year.

I'm assuming he'll also come in the ESB 40th anniversary retro box.

Imagine you spent a TON of time researching a super rare SW prop that there's NO research for, that's lost to the sands of time - say Luke's "Muppet Show" blaster (that's used in a couple of shots in the ESB Dagobah landing and no where else other than Hamill's 1980 Muppet Show appearance.) And you spent countless HOURS going frame by frame to figure out exactly what it looked like, and built a model from that.

Then HT suddenly showed a Dagobah landing Luke fig, and people wanted one. But instead of just asking you whether you'd be willing to make some casts of yours (or help with a 3D sculpt using your custom and research as the basis,) someone - who you're in some kind of argument with (I think?) in the same thread - just took a close up of one of your posted pics and posted "this guy's custom seems accurate and shouldn't be hard to match." Solely, apparently, with a view to mass producing and selling it.

Oh.... and "if I post anything it's also by default for the help of others"? Noble words.:clap

Well, I've posted several dozen super rare pics and comps for Scratchbuilder's landspeeder project that have made a difference. Don't get me started on my time spent on Rustyj's Gonk project, or the FIFTEEN e-mails I sent him with pic comps/notes on his 21B sculpt. Two months ago I spent nearly a DAY digging out and scanning over two dozen super rare pics of Ephant Mon for Cagoda's custom project. Two weeks ago I spent half an afternoon typing up comps between 8D8 and BGJ-38's bodies for Son of Dengar's BGJ custom project. Neither project I'm a part of, neither I even currently plan to buy. I'm the guy that gets a PM a week asking for help with ref pics for one custom project or another and 9 times out of 10 I not only help, I DELUGE people with help. Long PMs, lots of rare pics.

That's what I've been doing. So what have YOU done lately "for the help of others"? And even regarding the item that started all this, look what I posted on the previous page...

For the record, I had intended to make casts of my grappling gun available for basically free (just cost for resin) at the time I made these pieces, and would have done the same with the grenade if there had been demand (people didn't seem interested at that time.)

"For the help of others.":lecture I'm in the camp that we are all fans here... and that we respect each other and each others' work. That means having the courtesy of ASKING if you want to use something that's actually been a ton of work. But... that I'm more than happy to help people get versions of.

The alternative is Wor's advice: "don't share on a public forum." Maybe wise words.

COME ON PRE ORDER!!!
THIS Luke is missing from my collection.
Too fkn iconic to just reveal a Proto and NOT put it up!!!
Still devo that Star Wars character reveals are playing 2nd fiddle to the Marvel stuff.
Star wars is king...IMVHO 🤓

You do understand the difference between a person posting pics of their work on a public forum for others to enjoy (in the collegiate context of SW 1/6 collecting/customizing,) and another person zooming in on a specific part that person's work and seemingly holding it up for the sole purpose of mass-producing it (either by others or they themselves) on a public forum though, right?

I understand why you reacted the way you did, which is why I apologized for my lack of sensitivity and have now deleted the post, as it came across as unintentionally glib regarding your intensive research and work to replicate an obscure item.

I mean I've received lashings on this forum for even discussing the existence of bootlegged HT heads on eBay, yet it seems it's okay to use an individual member's own work for mass production simply because "hey, you posted it on a public forum." Seriously, if that's the case, I'll make my previous pics private and never post pics of anything I make on here again.

As stated, I would never mass produce careful research without the enthusiastic consent and participation of the original modeller. I sounded very casual precisely *because* of the "collegiate context" of which you speak, and that's also why I've issued you an apology for the blunder.

I think in a pre-pandemic world the Tali/ZE kerfuffle wouldn't have escalated quite like it did just now. Maybe ZE can delete the pic from his initial post and all can be forgiven, don't think harm or a call for intellectual property theft was intended.

Certainly no harm or mass production without permission and participation. In any case the post is deleted.

If that had been an original work of art I wouldn't have even brought it up, what I tripped over is that the piece in question is a copy of Lucasfilm IP openly posted on a forum full of customizers. I see and acknowledge the exceptional scholarship (although I failed to make that clear) required to replicate such a detail, but was indelicate in my approach because if the tables were turned, I myself wouldn't have cared -- which is not meant to invalidate how Talibane feels about the work he put in. Not everyone thinks like I do.

What I really don't want getting lost here is that I never intended to do a damn thing without Talibane jumping on board as the originator. The original post stated clearly that he had done all the hard work, albeit the phrasing was too glib.

(This has very much turned into an after-school TV special).

The way I understand it, if you decided to walk up to Scratchbuilder and replicate his intensively researched landspeeder without permission, he may have a rather strong issue with that. So smaller scale, same issue. Talibane thought I intended to bang out copies of his research and didn't respect his scholarship and time.

Hey who?s got a cheapo grenade I can buy for my boy Hoth Luke here.

Keep it below 30 bucks I don?t expect to be paying more than a marvel legends for it.

What's their obsession with having Luke's mouth open?

It's harder for the bootleggers to copy. It requires much more refined tooling, as these pvc heads are pressure cast in copper moulds. The bootleggers cast the HT end product(When the figure has released) and use several stages to reverse engineer the PVC copies, only for them to reduce with each stage, resulting in a far inferior copy. And with open mouth sculpts(Or separate hair strands, etc), each stage becomes harder. Exposed teeth are just one step to making it almost impossible to get PVC copies. Notice all the ROTJ Luke bootlegs on Ebay are resin.

I can't think of another case where a proto has been shown then just a day or two later a quite different proto is shown. Very weird.:dunno

Sure you can.
A few years back there were back-to-back convention displays(One *might* have been SDCC, and another in the far east i believe), where two different Ripley figures were shown.
The first convention had the lousy one with rooted hair, and everyone here was up in arms, then the next day, HT showed one more closely resembling the final sculpt and it looked far superior.

I hope you two can come around with each other. Hell, even Talibane and I managed to long ago, so it is possible. :)

Tali, I totally get your point, and aggravation, but I really don't think ZE had any bad intent in mind, nor you when you called him out. I found it very admirable that ZE apologized point by point. I could learn from ZE. I think we all could some times.

Anyway, I don't mean to get into other people's business, but I was intrigued by the dilemma (in a similar way it used to be brought up a lot for knock-offs and the like)... and I made this post only because I was quoted by both Tali and ZE.

For anyone interested and not on Facebook, Joost has opened preorders for 1/6 Snowspeeder with no down payment.

Damn I might go for that. I'll hate myself if I do and I'll hate myself if I don't. My biggest Star Wars pipe dream is to have a 1/6 Landspeeder, a 1/6 Snowspeeder, and a 1/6 Red V X-wing. Yes, a 1/6 X-wing. It would probably need to be chain hung from the ceiling of a room with a vaulted ceiling:slap

That would be as majestic as the first two movies themselves.

Just reading that gave me goosebumps.
