I'm a 1 figure to represent a character type of guy and I wanted to buy a more classic style coloured spidey...
I have only ever heard good things about that figure - are there issues beginning to reveal themselves?

I can be patient.
Nah I would still keep it. It's a great looking classic suit Spidey figure. I've had it posed like this with SooSoo's Goblin for months now and it's still doing great with no issues. The material on it isn't ideal but workable.

Also this figure (Holland) isn't even coming out for another 2 years.

This is a great-looking figure, but I'll plan to stick with my Classic Comic figure. That thing looks amazing on the shelf and the PS4 game means more to me than any of Holland's movies or his looks in them.

Man, the handful of anti-Classic Comic figure comments in here has me triggered, though! :sneaky: That figure is amazing in person and as close to comic-accurate as I think we'll ever get. To each their own, though, of course!

I was all in on that VG Classic version at 1st, but it just looks too rubbery to me. Doesn't look like a fabric suit. And then the hard plastic head. The only other figure I have that would maybe look decent with him is the Arkham City Batman. But I'd rather have a more lifelike looking classic Spidey to go with the few MCU figures I have. I do have the 1st ASM2 Spidey, so I decided to be content with him.

I think I'll wait till this comes out and I can see final product pics and comparisons. Thankfully there is a regular and DX, cause this would've definitely been a pass had I been forced to pay for a diorama base I'd never use and would need to find and buy a different stand for him. I also don't think there is any need to worry about missing out on this suit, as it will most definitely be featured in whatever the next MCU Spider-Man project is..

Shocked at how good this looks! Proves they can do the metallic fabric so why couldn’t they do that for an updated ASM Garfield?

Also, like previously mentioned, interesting how new releases with new headsculpts are getting the moving eyes now seemingly to compete with InArt.

Give me an updated TFA or Civil War Cap with that feature now, please and thank you

While there’s definitely precedent for a neckless moving eye system with hair back panel like DX05 Indy, I’m sure it’ll be accessed from under like you mentioned. The Darth Maul figures are like that as well as the DX TDK Batman figures. It would be a couple steps back if they did a removable hair back panel.
100% agree with the newer Caps. TFA and AOU for me would be my most wanted. And movable eyes on the helmet sculpts and unmasked sculpts would be perfect.

Strange to see so much hype about moving eyes again. I thought it had become generally agreed that they were to the detriment of likenesses and realism in too many cases to be worthwhile. What has changed that I'm not aware of? Has Hot Toys figured out the thick eyelids and cartoony doll-eyes problem?

Looks awesome though if the production figures can match that. Will buy.

I’ve always thought the Holland sculpts have been terrific (have they really all been one? I thought they had done at least three unique) but this is on the next level. The suit, the neck, the base and I am so all over this one.

I’ve been a card carrying Spidey fan for over forty years so the wait for this is nothing. I can play with my classic dolly while I wait.

Their recent use of it looks to be better implemented compared to their old ways. It looks like they managed to further close that gap that the old DX figures used to have where the eyes would be a bit too far set back in the sockets, giving it that hollow gap.

At least based on the recent Anakin, Padme and now this, the eyes look really well done and super close to the face. It almost doesn't even look like they're movable at all. Nice improvement from Hot Toys in that area. Hope it holds up in production though.

This. And who says that HT never improve their technique? I know I have lol. So along with the Debbie Downer thread we need the Please Sir, Give HT A Little Bit Of Praise thread?

$300? Where are you buying your figures from? I only paid $260. Probably available even cheaper now since SS can't get them all sold off here lately.

$300+ after tax ($25) and shipping ($20).

That’s probably what the other collector meant.

I try not to buy from SSC (when possible, except for EX editions) to avoid shipping/tax - other retailers also offer PO discount (below SSC MSRP).

Yeah they all look great. The other more recent figures with it have, too.

maybe inart competition pushed hot toys to make rolling eyeballs a standard feature now and not on DX only
It definitely has. Having moving eyes was for a select few figures. Now it seems like they're implementing it as a standard feature and it only started these past few months.

But then you also see the complete crap that they put out with Batman Begins and you wonder how they function + think. 🤡

Lot to think about - I'm gonna pro/con this....
I currently have the Toys Era Fiend & Dr Ock, Jazzinc Vulture, Hot Toys Mysterio to go with the Spidey of my choice....

Classic Suit
Pro:
- cheaper - got it in the Black Fri sale for $200
- more accessories - phone, newspaper, scorpion tail
- will arrive immediately
- as classic a look as it gets
- vivid colours

Con:
- diorama piece looks a little cheaper (is this the case?)
- suit material might be bad for poses (any experiences?)
- disconnect between face and hands having raised webs vs the suit
- no actor head sculpt likeness (would i use it?)

New Suit
Pro:
- like the colour and metallic sheen to the suit
- classic design with slightly modern aesthetic
- really good actor likeness/sculpt (might not use it as often as masked head but the option might be nice)
- the diorama looks more high quality
- the suit looks more cohesive than the Classic spidey no partly raised, partly flat parts of the costume

Con:
- A LOT more expensive for the version with diorama ($145) and ($80) for the standard
- will be nearly 2 years away
- less accessories (though I am not overly bothered by the scorpion tail tbh - unless people have very positive things to say)

Unknown:
- suit material and poseability - do we know the type of material? How do we think it will compare to Classic Spidey?

Any thoughts? Anything people would add?

Yeah... I think I've talked myself into sticking with the Classic - the price difference and the wait are just too much to ignore tbh...
I would only buy the diorama version and the price difference is most of another figure again.

Might just wait to see what the fates decide - 2 years is a long way from now and in that time I might get a bit more money/space and decide to pick this up anyway.
