Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Sideshow makes money with their statues (PF, Dio, ect..)..its simple as that.

Their 12'' figures are available for months even years before selling out...its not as profitable as the statue market (for them).

SW 12'' Figures arnt worth Shat.

Once they release Vader and a couple stormtroopers, they should let go the 12'' licence. Its not profitable.

Let Hot Toys do this, so that Sideshow can concentrate on beautiful Marvel statues.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Another thing I wanna say but in defense of Sideshow...I've owned the Scar & Celtic Predator from Hot Toys....While they were amazing figures, I've found that they were made of a really cheap plastic compare to the numerous Sideshow 12'' I once have....People here dont seems to have notice this....cheap plastic aint for me.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I seriously doubt SSC is losing money on the 12" license.

I noticed...it is a big issue for me as well. All the articulation in the world means nothing if the figures keep breaking. All of my Hot Toys AND Medicom mannequins were broken out of the box or broke as I was putting the figures together or, in the case of the Medicoms, every one of the ankles on the ones that I opened and tried to pose in good action poses broke or cracked.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

My ideal scenario is SSC being in charge of the line and HT lending a hand when needed ( might work for Driods.)

Maybe not losing money, but its not as profitable as their other formats of collectibles.

I think we sould hold judgement on droids until Sideshow makes one and shows us how well they do them.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

If all things remained the same and SSC charged $120 for the current $60-$80 quality then its obvious that HT at $120 is a better value.

But although SSCs prices have gone up to $80 on some figures recently, $120 is still 50%more than $80.

So are you implying that SSC would not up their quality by say a similar 50% or they would?

A 50% upgrade to SSC product would be huge and perhaps worthy or additional price.

If SS would up the quality to keep pace with the price increase then that would be great and all would be right with the world.:D
A 50% quality upgrade would be great. Many of the sculpts are already better than HT's but SS is so hit and miss in most areas whereas HT has been pretty consistent and getting better at a steady rate.

My RAH Boba Fett, the only Medicom figure I own, has its left leg broken.

So what? If SSC flooded the market with PFs just because thats what makes them the most margin, then their margin for those would go down. Plus, the 12" lines are what allows SSC to get into the regular collector's minds and eventually purchase PFs or other expensive product.

Plus, while individual 12" figures may or may not have as much profit margin as PFs, the fact that they make 10s of thousands of them a year makes it a huge money maker and keeps their customer base in the 100s of thousands as opposed to 10,000 that they would for PFs.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Didn't mention before but, Darth Cruel reminded me:

My hot toys Drake's Machine gun was broken right out of the box.

I won't even breath in the direction of my Chopper Predator.

Believe me the figures look great but, feel so brittle that when I assembled them I was terrified every second.

Sideshow's figures seem pretty durable.

And once again customer service.

EP III Anakin. When I received it the tip of his nose was ever so slightly scratched. I called sideshow and they offered to send a new one right on the spot. I refused cause it wasn't a big deal to me, I just wanted to let thm know it could lead to a problem with packaging.

Now I am not saying I brought the idea to their attention (the attendant said they had gotten numerous calls, but I noticed that they started putting collars around the heads of later figures. And presto no more problems .

Someone in the QC department was paying attention.

Still a Champion for Sideshow.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I love and own lots of figures by both of these companies, but I'm not in favor of HT getting into Star Wars, unless it was as a collaboration of some sort with Sideshow, at least at present. HT is heavy on super-detailed accessories, weapons, etc., and they would no doubt do an outstanding job on certain figures that Sideshow just isn't able to do at the moment. I'm thinking of 3P0, R2, battle droids, and all the other mech figures that exist in the SW universe... who's gonna make 'em? Wouldn't Hot Toys be the perfect company to do it?

Sideshow's costumes and head sculpts, especially some of the most recent, have been of the level of quality I was looking for when I first got into the line. Yes, there have been some disappointments along the way, but for the price it's pretty tough to beat what Sideshow has done so far. I doubt I'd be willing to get into a new Star Wars line by Hot Toys. I'll stick with Sideshow for the regular characters.

But let Hot Toys do the mechs and Sideshow the organics, and we'd hopefully get the best they each have to offer, especially if they work together on it. :D

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Were it up to me I'd have Lucasfilm give Hot Toys the exclusive rights to make 1/6 Star Wars figures as opposed to the current setup with SSC and Medicom because they would almost certainly do better than both.

How do we know that Sideshow can't do mech stuff?

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

at $120, neither. if you dont have a problem with SS's HS and cloth, then swapping the lame ass buck for a HT truelife body (which has its own problems) is still cheaper than $120.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I have question. Can anyone speculate on what the details are in this relationship with SS and HT? Does it envolve just design and development?

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

You would have to show me this because I don't see it.

I can prove it with just one item. Compare Hot Toys leather Terminator T800 jacket with Sideshows Terminator T800 jacket and SS's ends up looking like something Hasbro made back in the 60's.

But then HT on average charges far more for their figures than SS. But you get what you pay for and HT shows it in their detail and quality. If someone can't see the quality, well, don't know what else to say but you don't know what quality is.

And I've heard of no one breaking their HT bodies, must be a rare instance.
