Re: Wistful thinking: Hot Toys and Star Wars

I have no problem with Sideshow at the price they sell their figures for. And I have no problem with Hot Toys at the price they sell their "Model Kits" for. But if Hot Toys started doing Star Wars and did as good a job on them as do on lines like Aliens, Alien vs Predator, and Terminator...it would be "Hasta la vista, Sideshow". But only for the extras that I get to open. I would still by one of each to keep in the box from both.

Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Who would you rather have create your Star Wars 12 inch figures. Sideshow or Hot Toys.

Say they each made 6 figures per year.

Say each were $120.

Which would you rather have?

Without a lot of explanations, just who do you think would do a better job and deliver a better figure?

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I will start by saying I would choose Hot Toys without question.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Depends on too many factors. Come back and ask once we have Clone Obi in hand which would provide, I think, a fair assessment of something near HT current quality.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

hot toys for the quality and representation of the character. ss for the price, which is roughly half.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Everyone already knows that SideShow is ailing and failing in the realm of the 1:6 world. The Japanese manufactures Rule Supreme in the world of the rising sun. Hot Toys, Medicom, Dragon DML, DiD run circles around this sister USA manufacturer. Over the past two years SideShow has sunk fairly quick and I don't think it is their ultra slow releases that is killing them but their lack of vision. They once were unique but now they are completely predictable on their releases. Thank you Hot Toys for buying out SideShow. I think the only thing that they can make right are their statues because they're good for collecting dust, just like the DEAD do so well. Great job.

alright!!! a one of a kind discussion. cant believe nobody thought of this before. YEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWW!!!*throws hat up in the air*

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

It's a hard call, as I find HT doing some amazing work lately. But they're not perfect. Joker looks fantastic, but Davy Jones has come out too puny and the whole POTC line has some serious height issues.

However, I'd love to see what SS would do with a figure if it's base price was $120.

wooo. harsh. :peace :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I really don't like Hot Toys that much and their standard 22 points of articulation is a joke. If I had my pick, it would be DiD, the best upcoming Japanese manufacturer with life like hair, not sculpted.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Sideshow pulled me into 1/6 and Hot Toys makes an escape impossible.

You do know that Hot Toys is based in Hong Kong and not Japan, right? :duh

That said... I do agree with the consensus opinion that Hot Toys is THE leader in the 1:6 market now. Everyone else is just trying to keep up including Sideshow, who has wisely taken a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach when it comes to Hot Toys.

Once SideShow stood out as being different, fresh, unique, and fun. Now they stand for the past 40 years of regurgitation. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz.

I'm sorry guys, I've never bought a Hot Toys figure. Although I have read many popular and favorable reviews on their merchandise. I stand corrected that Hot Toys is a Hong Kong property. But I still carry the idea that SideShow has sunk their own boat!

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Moot Point really. SSC knows what we all know that HT is the leader in the 1/6 market and has gone to them for their new body. The SW figures at bare minimum will be on an HT Inspired body and have a lot HT influences. I always prefer HT over any other company but SSC is given us a nice alternative for these. Add in Trevor and Andy's sculpts and if they can really get on the QC from the factory then they'll have a bunch of figures that can stand side by side with HT figures without fail.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Depends on the character, but overall, Sideshow has done a fine job for the price point.

But for the droids, HT no question.
