Re: Sideshow could learn a thing or two from Hot Toys for SW

I noticed that the Gandolf head is like Obi's. Looks like they used the HT trick for that as well. Anyone else notice that too?

Sideshow should let Hot Toys make the droids

We know Hot Toys is perfectly capable of making proportionally accurate mechanical figures with light up features: e.g. Iron Man and T-800 Endoskeleton. It is highly probable if Hot Toys made the droids, 3PO would have light up eyes and R-2 would have lights on its dome. Meanwhile, Sideshow has announced a Clone Trooper with a deformed helmet and no assurance that they will fix it. Now they have announced a carbonite block with no lights. We have waited patiently for three years and no sign or word of the droids from Sideshow. It appears the droids are too complicated and too expensive for Sideshow to produce. They already said that if they made the Hot Toys tumbler, it would cost $1000. What do you guys think?

Why do you start a thread like this every week?

:huh

Re: Sideshow should let Hot Toys make the droids

I'm sure if Sideshow wants to make the droids, they'll call upon Hot Toys if they feel a need for their assistance. They may be able to build 3PO from the armor body, much like the actual costume was pieces over Anthony Daniels. As for R2-D2, he's not that complex that HT would be needed either, and SSC knows enough what they're doing with electronics, I just think they've opted not to on some pieces where we feel it would have been ideal.

Hasbro droids are good enough.

I just love to start crap!!

I think he likes crying about Sideshow . Wasn't last weeks "Vader's exposed threads bother me sooooooooo much" thread? :rotfl Sideshow has said that while they haven't ruled out a possibility of making the droids, until they do, Hasbro's are a more than efficient stand-in. FYI Justin, it's not up to Sideshow to let HotToys make the droids. They're "borrowing" the Star Wars license from Hasbro. Additionally, with all the talent Sideshow has and considering their latest releases have been absolutely awesome, I think they're more than capable of stepping up to the task.

Anyone got pics of Hasbro's versions???

Here they are. C3P0 is an exclusive from the book/figure package and the R2-D2 is from the Slave Leia 2-pack. And before people start chiming in, yes, R2-D2 is a bit shorter than he should be. He should actually go up to the top of 3PO's hip. We already know... You heare me iCruise?! We already know! :p

The point is, they're not that glaringly awful to put with Sideshow's line. DarthNeil posted a good pick with them in his Jabba display. He'll probably repost it once he visits.

I need a C3PO ideally by SS quick style, what with Han in Carbonara adding to the Jabba setup, it'll look the NUTS....Just ordered a vinyl R2 kit from some Thaiwanese guy on ebay...gonna build him myself

...Anyone know if that Jabba dancing girl statue is to scale with the rest?

Neither the statue or the vinyl R2 kit are 1/6 in scale.

Re: Sideshow should let Hot Toys make the droids

I've suggested this quite a while back. Didn't even have to start my own thread on it. ...

Not sure why you're addressing that to me, but yeah he does look a little short. I don't know why it's so darned hard to make a decent 1/6 scale version of these guys. I think most people would be satisfied with limited articulation -- it's not like the actual droid costumes were very mobile.

Re: Sideshow should let Hot Toys make the droids

While his rep as a Sideshow Nitpicker will have many dismissing this, Justin does have a point.

There is little question that Hot Toys would do a better job. They are 1:6 engineering geniuses. They could have done these 2 years ago while I would assume Sideshow still hasn't figured out exactly how they'd do them. If HT made the Carbonite Environment, it would be complete with lights and electronics.

That said, I think it's a moot point. Unless Sideshow decides to turn over production of full-on figures it probably won't ever happen. Our best bet and hope is that Sideshow figures out how to do these (and Chewie) on their own, but perhaps soliciting HT in a consulting capacity (like they did with the hobbit and armored figure bodies).

Re: Sideshow should let Hot Toys make the droids

We have troops building for 2008, Sideshow how about Droid army building for 2009?:D
