I know anticipating production numbers on these things is a crap shoot, but I wonder if the HT beancounters aren't kicking themselves a little bit that they may have underestimated demand and taken a bit more of our money.

After stepping away from sixth scale collecting I broke down and purchased the Stormtrooper two-pack last night.

Now I'm trying my best not to purchase a second. :slap

You are aware that another 2-pack will make the original purchase ten times as satisfying? Another couple of 2-packs after that will make you reach nirvana. :lol

Well one of my troopers has a nice big paint chip on the front of the helmet.
I have contacted the retailer who after a few emails is claiming the item is not defective and this is normal and part of the paint process and can not replace or refund the item because it was opened and is not defective. They also wrote this.
After viewing several helmets that we have on-hand, it appears that all sets do have some sort of slight variance in the manufacturing of the figure. Most reflect a variance in paint application - some consistent with what you have received. Since this is the way that the items were manufactured, we are not able to consider your item defective and strongly feel that you may have received one of the best that are available already.
I since replied stating this is not a normal painting defect and this a paint chip! And if the matter is not resolved I will be contacting my card company. They have Since got back to me offering a refund but won't pay shipping or refund the shipping I paid and that I won't be able to get import taxes back. They also threaten to close my account because I mentioned contacting my card company. yadayada.

Are we talking about that small grey spot to the right of the breathing port? Is it as visible in person as it is in the photo?

Now, WRT refunds, what you're getting from this retailer is normal and expected. The damage is not shipping related, so you'd be responsible for the cost of the return. Whether to refund your original shipping is another matter, but if they're not going to get this covered under any kind of warranty, you'd probably have to eat that realistically. If they were providing a replacement, they'd ship that to you for free.

What country is this store in?

And finally WRT to import taxes, you just need to show proof to your customs/government that you're returning the goods and you'll get that back - it shouldn't have anything to do with the retailer.

In my own business, my customers must cover shipping when sending anything to me, whether for refund or warranty issue - I cover shipping back to them. If for refund not due to warranty issue, I additionally keep 15% or 25% if they paid by check or money order. I never refund the original shipping charges.

Just my two cents but that is something I'd live with if it were mine. Not possible for every figure to be flawless. And threatening to contact your card company to dispute the charges, yikes. It's not like they're trying to rip you off. I'd only do that in cases of outright fraud. Likewise like Pixel says, what would they have to do with import fees? Stuff like this is why a lot of US retailers won't even ship to Canada, I guess.

Way I see it -- it's not necessarily a bad thing that these have small paint issues. The ANH troopers have dirty scuffed armor, for all we know they also have little black spots and chips.

its BBTS.

The spot is visable from over 2 foot away and it's not on the surface. The paint is missing or been knocked out like a stone chip on a car.

I have a 2-pack from BBTS sitting at my US mailbox right now waiting for me. Unfortunately all these late orders don't put us in a good position for warranty issues. Hot Toys are notoriously bad with providing replacement parts stock and this late in the game it's nearly impossible to swap out for an exchange. Sideshow themselves are sold out so it's doubtful they have many held back for situations like this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed mine don't have any major issues and if there's a blemish or small chip I'm guessing I'll have to fix it myself unless I want a refund.

I have to give them their due even tho they stuck their feet in at the start they have offered a refund after trying to fob me off with copy and paste answer.

The fact it's right bang on the front of the helmet it really draws the eye.

Just got back to them thanking them for the offer of a refund on purchase price but then asked is their no way a replacement helmet can be sent or a partial refund so I can seek a replacement myself or try and get it repaired.

What type of paint or colour white would be suitable to repair the hottoys storm trooper?

That is not a big issue man. The figures might have some minor paint errors or even like yours a tiny chip. But you can barely see it, since you had to take a very close up of the figure to show it to us. Do not worry. I had my single trooper coming with many parts unglued so I did everything myself there. The pair was perfect though. In the end remember how the real helmets and armors were in SW.

My replacement Short Trooper arrived today from Sideshow, courtesy of Lee at Collectibles Direct.

It's minty fresh and unblemished. :yess:

Apart, that is, from the lenses inside which have white paint brushwork all over them. Not that you'd ever really see that when the helmet is on, but it shows they were painting these inside by hand after the lenses were put in.

My two pack should be here tomorrow. My fingers are crossed for no paint chips. I can take a small blemish, considering that the movie costumes weren't all that perfect. But I'm hoping for no major chips, as, at this point, it sounds like SS is out of replacements.
