Hot Toys - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Luke Skywalker (Force Projection) - CONFIRMED

When I went to the theater, part of me wanted Luke to not even reach for the saber. Instead, looking at it intently, he’d say, “That saber isn’t mine to take. I lost her once... I sense... she calls to you now.”
The way the scene actually went made me (and hundreds around me in the theater) laugh out loud! I think it set the tone for the rest of the film as not being what was expected, and not taking itself too seriously.
I appreciate this unique entry in the saga. Humor has always played a role in Star Wars; it’s just usually more subtle. The Last Jedi progresses the overall canon slowly, but has some key scenes that I believe are iconic. No need for an edited version for me.
Still, I’m hoping they do dial back the humor for the finale.

Like most of the decisions in the film, Luke discarding the lightsaber was done to reveal his character.

I don’t think anyone’s disputing that in the current discussion. :lol

Honestly I didn't find the humor excessive or any more out of place than in any other SW movie. Perhaps it was a slightly different style or a bit more slapsticky in places, but it all still worked for me. And there was nothing even half as bad as 3PO stumbling around with a Battle Droid head for five minutes.

It was noticeable for me. At times it felt like they were trying to take a page out of the MCU book. However, I do think it kind of waned as the film went on. They laid it on pretty thick though at the beginning.

I do think it’s being disputed, since much of the discourse is around whether it’s primary purpose was to elicit a cheap laugh.

Literally everyone involved has stated they understand what the scene is meant to convey regarding Luke’s character. What’s being discussed/disputed is whether it could have been done differently while still conveying the same message.

It was just the wrong thing to make a silly visual gag out of. And any way you interpret it, a major character looking at something that we think is important to them/us then having them literally toss it over his shoulder like its an empty coke can (and down off a cliff as well) is written and shot as a joke. He didn't refuse to take it, he didn't even drop it at Rey's feet and walk away.

The issue for me was that humor can come from a variety of characters and situations, but when you're dealing with a central storypoint or theme (as Luke and the saber was in a number of ways,) you don't use it as a visual gag.

No luck at Ani-Com so far. He’s MIA from the highlight reel. I think it just started though.

I don't think it's toy fair releated. They will not release this until TLJ Luke ships.

It could pop up as one of their weekly reveals anytime. No need to wait for a show to preview him... especially since the largest summer con are now behind us.
