Well her character got such a huge response and the actress' career has been on fire since TLJ came out, so it doesn't surprise me.

I can understand not liking certain characters. I personally don’t care for Boba Fett and Count Dooku. What I don’t understand are all the violent fantasies about Rose (on this forum and all over the internet). It’s quite disturbing. Why do you need to go there with your negativity?

Yep. Creepy. I suppose it's a bit like what Jar-Jar Binks was subjected to, except without the added creepy element of people talking about how boffable Jar-Jar was or was not and how that played into his value as a character who should be A) alive and B) part of Star Wars.

For starters it's movie, she doesn't need to die IRL. It's not exactly uncommon for folks to hope a disliked/annoying character dies on a show.

Secondly the actual title of the films is Star WARS. It sorta implies that some violence is forthcoming.

Neither of these things makes the context of what I mentioned less creepy. If people are talking about how much hotter Paige was and how they wish she'd lived and Rose had died. It's creepy. Also, the ongoing nature of these wishes for her death is also creepy. Because it happens elsewhere does not make it less creepy. Lots of Breaking Bad fans wanted Skylar to die. That was creepy too. I'm sure there are non-creepy examples, but I feel like those are usually villains?

Now, let's not be disingenuous. The calls aren't for Rose to die because "hey, people die in war." They are because people dislike her character to such an extent that they wish her to die. The fact it's the first Asian American in any significant role in Star Wars makes it feel creepy. The fact that people talk about how hot or not she was is creepy. The fact that she was a positive, noble character who just wanted to do the right thing and people STILL want her to die is also, frankly, creepy.

I'm not saying disliking Rose is creepy. I understand a lot of the points that people raise, even if I disagree. But the ferocity and regularity of people actually saying they wish she died? It's creepy. I should note, I'm not calling out this forum specifically. It's in a few places I've seen. If people want to keep joking about it, that's fine. I won't bang this drum too much. But I do think it's worth letting those people know that... for many reasons.... there are those of us who find it creepy.

I honestly must have missed those types of comments in the Freaks board. All I see are some humorous jabs at a pair of meh characters. Nothing creepy in that.

Too many people have blurred lines between reality and fantasy......thats where it get creepy..

Repeatedly coming up with scenarios on how to kill the character is what I'm addressing. Outside the forum it gets way worse. There are people out there who are actually buying multiple Rose figures to play out different ways to kill her, including impaling and dismemberment.

I mean, come on... If you're watching a movie or show and your hero enters someone's room and there's a lot of dolls in there, you know that someone is the serial killer immediately. If the doll's eyes move and look at you, then you also know he is the devil.

Yes, by people both “bitching” about TLJ and also by people who loved the film and are hyper sensitive to any slightest criticism or critique about the film and/or characters. Particularly Rose, it seems.

TLJ figure speculation threads don’t seem to end up too well. Especially when it’s speculation about a figure that at this point likely has less than 1% chance of actually reaching production, so the two camps seem to just end up using the thread as a boxing ring to go another round in the perpetual TLJ “debate”.
