I really do hope this is just a compliment line. Stuff SS knows they just can't do, like Chewie. HT will find a way to do it and keep the quality through production, something Sideshow struggles with. But a few select core characters re-done wouldn't be the end of the world. I just don't want two compeating SW lines in 1:6 scale. Medi doesn't count :lol

Im with you on that. I dont want another SW 1:6 line. SS has done a good job just hasnt kept up with some of the better earlier annoucments as others have mentioned.

i dig the anticipation of it all… i would love to see Hot Toys handle the Fetts, General Grievous, Chewbacca, Luke in his Snowspeeder uniform, and the Droids. this would allow SST to concentrate on the character path they are on and bring us more Cantina characters, Veers, Tarkin, Tusken, etc.

too much is not enough. as this board demonstrates, each of us has a very unique taste palate… having Hot Toys on board will add a little more flavor to the mix.

What makes people so sure that Hot Toys would make a great Chewbacca? To date they have NEVER made anything like that.

They're great with sculpts, clothes, paint applications (especially skin and face portraits) and accessories.

This IS Chewbacca we're talking about, essentially a naked walking carpet with a bandoleer. Hot Toys is good but I don't see one figure in their 1/6 making career that tells me they're ready to put out "TEH BEST" Chewbacca.

You need an all new True Type body, and two choices in aesthetic. "Fur" or sculpt.

I think the planet of the apes figures give you and idea I think of what HT could do.

But they had a majority of human clothing didn't they? The amount of "fur" they had was basically hair for a 1/6 female figures. We're talking a whole lotta fur here, facial too.

I'm not sure how much fur they used all over the figures but I think they could replicate the process over the body.

I've never collected Star Wars 1/6th before but I can't imagine Cantina or Jabbas palace characters having any appeal to me at that scale. They are generally silly looking aliens who'd look even sillier next to my collection of Predators and terminators. And I just wouldn't ever feel any sense of completion owning 3 or 4 from a scene that had a great many more characters which would likely never be made...not in 1/6th anyway.

On the other hand these are my absolute favourite characters to collect in the Hasbro 3 3/4" range. The core characters are mostly done to death with only very few updates left to do so for me the background and obscure of the obscure characters from the films are the only reason to continue collecting that line.

At 1/6th I might have a hard time turning down a Han Solo, Princess Leia etc by Hot Toys though. Core characters only.

Agreed. Heroes, Villains and Stormtroopers only, no need for obscure aliens/background characters.

What are 1/6 stormtroopers like? I hope they don't turn yellow like the Hasbro ones...just don't know if I could stomach that on an expensive HT figure.

I don't see Hot Toys potential Star Wars line being anything but complimentary to the Sideshow line. There's no way Sideshow would give up or needs to give up the license fully and considering that we have products from them coming out well into 2011, I don't see it ending soon.

Therefore increased collaboration and complimentary work makes sense.

Hot Toys could make things like a speeder bike happen (I heard Sideshow was seriously impressed with the Batpod). They could do DX core character updates and only the more complex newer figures while Sideshow continues along the path they've established.

Sideshow has done stormtroopers with the help of HT. They're fraking awesome and are pristine white.

I believe the armor is ABS plastic. It shouldn't turn yellow without some serious neglect.

Considering that Hot Toys was instrumental in assisting Sideshow with the stormtrooper armor (their logo is even on the box) it's basically a Hot Toys stormtrooper. Switch it to a true-type and you've got it. I'm sure their method of armor attachment would be a bit different from Sideshow's, but I can't imagine much difference between the two beyond that. Awesome figure either way.

Ah the background characters are part of what make star wars awesome. :(

True but I don't need $150-$200 background characters. Let Sideshow do those and hopefully HT sticks to the big guns.

The Planet of the Apes figures were close. Plus those Ape Expolorer things. They've worked with fur before so if anyone can do it, its them. And plus, when has HT not been up to a challenge (prices for Iron Monger and Alien Queen aside)?

Only things wrong with the SS Stormtrooper was the inaccurate helmet and oversized chest armor. Otherwise it was perfect.

I'd still love to see SS try to fix those pieces, maybe I'd buy another since I sold my first.

I'd love to see Vader & troopers redone by HT but if it's a complimentry line I'm guessing HT would be doing Grevious and the like

That's the great thing though you only have to buy them of you want. If a company is gonna do a sw line go all out or get the heck out. Im not buying background from sideshow since I've narrowed my focus soni wouldnt from HT either. :lol

Either way I'm gonna get some if HT does more than just certain figures but I hope it's just them doing certain figures.

Your overconfidence in Hot Toys is their weakness.
