Has HT and SSC ever has concurrent dominion under a certain license? I suspect this is either a "HT is helping SSC" or a complete takeover of the license. If HT goes toward remaking SSC items then its the end of SSC items in the future.

I had forgotten all about Grievous. That would be a great figure for them to do.

Grevious will be amazing. HT is like the A-Team they specialize in the ridiculous.

Yup, I mean it'd be nice if they got us droids like 3PO and R2 as well, but in terms of HT's skills as a 1/6 maker, I think Grievous and the Destroyer Droids are the most complex robotic characters to push the limits. I can just imagine what HT would do with the throat and abdominal organs on Greivous along with the sturdy body and pulling off his fuctionality like the splitting arms.

Yep, I hope the HT/SS Star Wars union is a long one. I'm gonna love seeing the few figures HT does and the quality they do it with but it would be a shame for SS to dismiss the license altogether.

We would never have seen Jabba and throne, Carbo Han and most of the figures like the Rebel Trooper, the alien Jedi's if SS hadn't of had the license.

Nope, Hot Toys has either helped with bodies and armor, or they've picked up licenses after Sideshow's been done with them (POTA, T2). Indy is theoretically picking up after Sideshow's stopped.

I don't think any scenario will mean the end of Sideshow's Star Wars. Even if HT remakes or whatever, HT will not do things like Gamorrean Guards or Admiral Piett.

No matter what, Sideshow will have value for offering the obscure.

Since such obscure things haven't stopped the Sideshow line, I think it's safe to say there's a market for it, that market won't be able to keep up with HT figures in the same numbers at $150+ each, it's been getting tough at around $100 for Sideshow figures. If HT went off and did it's own Star Wars line, it'd have some customers from Sideshow, but it couldn't bring everyone over because of price.

Totally agree. The HT v SS debate reminds me of Sega v EA Sports debate. IMO neither is "better" they provide a different experience and competition which ultimately ups the ante. Preference isn't right or wrong, they are just different. IF HT and SS get into the SW market, I only see good things for all. Here is to hoping....:duff

I'm with ya. I personally feel my collection is for the better by having both in it.

Those would be perfect as well. I agree with you though that Greivous and the Destroyer Droids will push them quite hard.

As far as a figure that hasn't been done yet, I think my most wanted is Chewie, but even for Hot Toys, that's a bit of uncharted territory, so I'm not excited until we actually see something. Grievous is along the lines of Iron Man and Endoskeleton, there's historical evidence of what they can do with such things and all, so far, only the couple Apes offer any proof of what HT might do with Chewie, if they even did him, and I'm not convinced that solution would work.

If Hot Toys was going to make C-3PO, I would like to see the following: film accurate proportions, articulation range that also matches film costume, actual wires in the abdomen, articulated hands like found on Iron Man, and light up eyes that can be dimmed to preference. I am assuming each droid will cost $200, minimum.

If HT makes 3PO, I would imagine that the wire area of his stomach would be sculpted rubber with the wires part of the sculpt. While actually wires might look better or be more accurrate, it's an unnecessary length to go to and a good place for concession to bring down the figure cost.

there is a balance between accuracy and reasonability.

you want real wires? be prepared to fix it when it breaks.

I know everyone's excited about this possibility (HT doing SW) but I gotta say...it makes me a little sad.

I've enjoyed Sideshow doing sixth scale Star Wars figures and while the cost has climbed, I'm still able to pick one up once in a while. If Hot Toys takes over, I know the figures will be amazing, but the price jump will push me out of this part of the hobby.

Don't want to rain on the parade, but just had to get that out there...

thats exactly how I feel. I sorta been pushed out a bit already, though I still pick 1 up every quarter or so. HT? It will be 1 every 6 months. I remember the days I used to get 1 or 2 a month.

That is a fair call and many will be in the same boat. For me I would rather have one awesome HT's SW figure rather than 3 good SS SW figures.

Medicom was working off a similar list to this - sadly the only area they came close was the price.

i think that works great for most licenses, but I think a lot of SW fans want depth to their line and not just 5 figures. The issue however is that SSC hasn't been targeting SW collectors for a long time now, as evidence by the dramatic down shift in their production since 2007.

what I mean by that is SSC concerns them selves with 1/6th collectors more than general SW collectors. Which may be good for 1/6th collectors in terms of higher quality but price wise tarketing a wider audience as they did in 2006 and 2007 means lower prices.

Well, I think the real issue is the assumption by many that if HT is announcing a full line of their own, it means the end of Sideshow's 1/6 Star Wars.

I don't think in any scenario, SSC's line will be over. If HT goes back and does remakes, so what, Sideshow's already sold those figure, if HT does things Sideshow hasn't or isn't, then SSC collectors can pick them up to and add to their collections.

Star Wars is such an expansive property, in this side of collecting, no one company can cover it all. Something like Hasbro 4" figures is the only way you can cover such large territory alone.

Yup.

I see Hot Toys sticking to main and secondary characters along with possibly some very popular tertiary characters.

Their first figures would probably be versions Sideshow has already done. Like Jedi Luke. :p

Or again, characters Sideshow hasn't gotten to yet and maybe won't for some time.

Think of all the main characters we think Sideshow should be getting too now and putting all the side Clones and such on hold for, well, with both companies rolling stuff out, we'd be likely to have all the options.

I am looking forward to seeing how this actually plays out and then comparing it to the discussion here to see if any of us were right or over-reacting.

If this pans out to be something 1/6, I don't think there's anything to overreact to. I think one way or another, further efforts by HT in the 1/6 Star Wars world would be good for us.

The only way this would be kind of bad is if it turns out to be Cosbabies or Chubbies.
