I feel like all the people saying this new sculpt of old Arnold isn't good are nuts, and haven't seen pictures of old Arnold recently. This is one of the best sculpts of Arnold HT has done so far. If only it was for a more significant movie.

I finally got to see this yesterday. My girlfriend hadn't seen the original two, so we we watched those those the previous night and hit an IMAX matinee the following day.

First off, I love T1 and T2, the latter is arguably my favorite film of all time. I have to say, I am very glad I rewatched them before seeing Genisys for various reasons, but notably to have a fresh mental image to compare to; memory is a funny thing when it comes to remembering things you love. As I expected, everything held up, T2 As good as it was day one.

So. What did I think of Genisys?

Loved it. I am honestly pretty floored with how much flack the movie is getting; it is much, much better than either 3 or Salvation and truly felt like a respectable, plausible, believable sequel to T2.

Can I nitpick? Absolutely. I don't think Jai Courtney is the best visual match to Michael Biehn, but I think he accurately checked off the Kyle Reese requirements otherwise. Emilia Clarke is a bit too "prettied up" compared to Linda Hamilton in T2.

But outside that? It was an 80/90's action flick. That's what the film was. If that movie came out before 1995, people would be singing to a different tune. It was a fun action movie that respects the original films and integrates well with them.

My reservation showed when we entered the theatre, my girlfriend said I looked sad; I expected it to be awful, I really did. I found myself smiling and full of excitement pretty quickly into the movie, and at the halfway point I was completely sold. Furthermore, the suspense my girlfriend experienced when we watched T1 was palpable; she exhibited similar emotion watching this. That only further validated it for me. This is someone who saw the best installments for the first time two days ago and walked out saying this was good; that's pretty solid for a film like this if you ask me.

I enjoyed it, it certainly doesn't dethrone 1 or 2, but it destroys the others and is a worthy successor. Mad Max still tops it for 2015 summer, but I honestly enjoyed watching this far more than The Avengers and exponentially more than Jurassic World. Do yourself a favor and go see it if you haven't.

And yes, the Guardian T-800 has been bumped up on my to buy list. I'd prefer a 2017 version, but if this is it, it will do.

So after seeing the film, what version of Pops is this supposed to be?

We see him in flashbacks saving Sarah in 1973, when he looks as the Terminator did in 1984. Then we see him in 1984 taking on the first terminator, however I don't think he looked as old as this figure is. It was only 11 years on from when he saved Sarah, so he was supposed to look around 50 ish and to me it looked like they had used CGI to make him appear less wrinkled. Then in 2017 we see the old version with grey hair, which resembles this figure, however he doesn't have grey hair. So is this supposed to be the 1984 or the 2017 version?

It's supposed to be the 1984 "I've been waiting for you" version. The battle damage head isn't accurate to any specific movie scenes in particular, its actually from one of the posters. Same with the Sunglasses.

Mmmm, I really didn't think he looked as old in this part of the film. When he watches Sarah and Kyle leave in the time displacement machine, he doesn't appear as old there, like they made him look younger. Maybe it's just me.

You're correct. In the film they use cgi to smooth out his face to make him appear younger.

Ok... so I haven't watched the film (no spoilers), but the figure is realistic to Arnie as he looks now, but not to a particular 'version' of him in the movie... ??

The figure comes with two heads. The clean head matches his look from the first time you see him in the movie. The second head gives you a BD sunglassed look not from the movie but featured on one of the movie posters.

Haha... People make it sound very complex...
The thing is, the figure is not screen accurate...
It features the clothes from the 1984 scene, but the head is sculpted like the 2017 (present day arnie) scene... But with brow hair, which is accurate for the 1984 scene but the face shouldnt be as old...
The battle damaged head and sunglasses are simply extras, the way he looks in the posters, but never seen in the movie...

Here is a break down of the "stages" in which the t800 appears (based on arnold apparent age) in the movie:
1973: 36 years old guardian
1984: 36 years old "bad" terminator
1984: maybe 44-47 years old guardian, similar to T2 arnolds age (a bit younger than current day arnold, through gci and makeup)
2017: old guardian, current day arnold WITH grey hair

Aaaaand pictuuures!

The undamaged HS is great. Would totally use that one, with the hood up.

Hell, I'd pose the undamaged sculpt without the shotgun, just to have 'semi-retirement' age Arnie on my shelf... :clap

Makes sense. They sculpted a face that they could reuse for the 2017 version. They're just going to paint the hair grey and release it again down the road.

The skin should be way younger looker since they CG'd his face for that year.
