I personally think that this apparent "negativity" on this thread is borne out of frustration, not hate for no reason. Since 2012 people have waited for HT's QS Ledger Joker to pair with their QS001, more so after QS001 was released with a total overhaul that made people forgive the long delay and forget the mediocre prototype. It's one of the reasons why many people passed on the Enterbay version thinking that HT would release theirs soon and would definitely look better. It didn't happen as soon as they have thought, and it seems that a lot of people didn't find it as good looking as they had hoped.

:goodpost:

The thing is a lot of people that don't get the criticism of this sculpt are usually the ones new to this hobby, so they really don't get that we are frustrated that Hot Toys continues to let us down when it comes to sculpting the likeness of Ledger. That being said, I honestly don't get how people can think this sculpt has a good likeness after they have seen Prime 1's sculpt.

Or maybe others have a different opinion and do see Heath in the sculpt.

It looks plenty like Ledger to me.

Obviously there is some likeness there because you can tell who it is when the sculpt is painted with no make up. The problem is the likeness is not good enough to shrine through the make up as there are just too many things off with the sculpt.

I'd like a little more expression to really capture the essence of the character but I think that about most HT neutral sculpts.

I think most people would, at least the DX11 smirk sculpt had that.

I’m wondering if the heath ledger “estate” or who ever is over his likeness is prohibiting an authentic likeness. Isn’t it one thing to have the Batman franchise license and another to have the actors themselves. Adams is the best when it comes to customs but I find it odd that his prime one sculpt which is bigger and should have been easier to capture detail and likeness isn’t as good as his custom work (in which case he didn’t need actors approval. Anyway just a thought

I think Adam's sculpt for Prime 1 is as good as his 1/6 customs. We're just thrown off by the expression (or lack thereof) that Prime 1 approved, and the paint app that could have been much better.

You raise some good points, IMO though the Prime sculpt looks as good as his customs. However, if it isn't then I think the most logical reason was simply that Adam just didn't care enough to make the sculpt look as best as it can. Regardless, whether or not it is as good as his custom ones is besides the point as it clearly is better than anything any other company has produced on a mass scale.

I have to agree that the prototype is disappointing. It does poor job of capturing the Joker as in the movie and the actor himself. Hopefully Hot Toys can improve it for the final release if not I will have to cancel my order.

The alternate half and half sculpt show how good the Ledger likeness is in my opinion. I think what throws off the main sculpt other than the lack of expression is the hair. It looks too slicked back. I'd love to see a custom based on this sculpt with good quality rooted hair.

Completely agree. I definitely see a much stronger Ledger likeness in the half and half head. It's more so the paint that's throwing it off for sure.

Overall I think the figure looks absolutely fantastic, and I can look past the minor imperfections of the headsculpt because everything else looks great.

Agreed, at least most of the other Hot Toys Joker sculpts captured the character.

One can only hope, but I doubt they will, since they know this will sell out regardless if they improve the sculpt or not.

Sorry I would have to disagree, it just shows that the sculpt has some likeness to Ledger, similar to how the HT Cop sculpt looks like Ledger without the make up. In fact many custom sculpts have looked like Ledger when unpainted but once painted with make up, the likeness is lost.

The fact is you should be able to see Ledger in the sculpt even painted with the full make up, if you can't, then the sculpt doesn't have a good enough likeness.

I think what throws off the main sculpt other than the lack of expression is the hair. It looks too slicked back. I'd love to see a custom based on this sculpt with good quality rooted hair.

That might throw of the likeness of the clown Joker overall look but it doesn't have anything to do with the likeness of Ledger's face. Nevertheless, l think the sculpt would look better if the mouth was closed and the expression had a slight smirk.

Bottom line is if you really like the figure as is, no amount of negativity from others' opinions can and should make you think otherwise. Very much applicable to movies and its critics, too :)

this is easily the most disappointing release of a character for me personally that I have ever seen. While the Prime version is disappointing for me in some ways, at least the likeness is there. It's easier to look over other flaws when the likeness to a character is accurate.

I've never owned the DX11 but have the knock off version of the laughing head and love that sculpt. I wonder if a third party company could recast it in 1/4 scale. Personally I have no issue with the likeness on this prototype, I'd just like a laughing sculpt as an alternate. One with good quality rooted hair would be especially welcome.

Been lurking in here for awhile. Dunno what the heck you guys are talking about. This joker is phenomenal lol

Yeah, everytime I go in this thread, that DarkAvatar dude is just full of criticism. Its why I stopped going in this thread half a year ago and still to this day, more criticism. Just enjoy it FFS.

I can't wait to have it, got my first 1.4 this year, mark 43 Iron Man, and it's phenomenal. I don't care so much if his lip and mouth protrusions aren't as big as in the film, it looks incredible and is probably going to be incredible, can't wait for it!

Whats up man? You enjoying that Suicide Squad Batman (definitive Batman)? :)

Well that seems like a major overexaggeration but if it's true I guess you have thankfully been spared of many truly bad figures.

I don't collect figures anymore, but it had a lot of potential in my eyes to make it into my collection nonetheless. Gotta be picky in this hobby with so much out. I'm confident something will come along one day that meets my standards....maybe a 1/4 Joker 2.0? lmao

Couldn't have said it better myself, the fact that Primes Joker looks like Ledger is the only reason I want it.

Well thanks for singling me out, despite that this year I only made a couple of recent posts on here after the pages of posts where people have been bashing this sculpt. Furthermore, my last post where I criticized this sculpt in 2017 was in August and my last post in general in 2017 was in September, so I have not been active in this thread in 2017 since then. Thus, using me as an excuse as to why you stopped visiting thread is BS as you kept on posting over a month after I last criticized the sculpt.

I'm not the only one who has been very vocal when it comes to bashing this sculpt. The fact is there are a lot of people who are pissed off with the likeness, and they are venting on here, which they are entitled to do, so no one should be telling them to enjoy it if they hate it. On the other hand, no one should be telling people who like it to hate either, which I have never done, I just said Primes is better and explained why I think it is better. I don't resort to comments like this sculpt sucks or its a POS, I only offer constructive criticism, which I think should always be welcome.

I agree, I wish the head sculpt on this looked as good as Primes, I love the grenade pose and pretty much everything else about the figure.

Yeh. If you're singling anyone out I think it should probably be me. :lol

However, this is a discussion forum and if some of us wish to critique the sculpt as we do not think it has a decent enough likeness, we can.

That should not hamper your enjoyment of it. So, as you said; 'just enjoy it FFS'.
