Inart and Hot Toys releasing versions so close together has amplified this to legendary lunacy levels. The offerings are starting to get closer to the customs far more than before, which is getting the customs crowd uneasy. Just going to have to spend $5k+ on sculpts to size queen over the plebes.
I'm a little tired of that speech...

That's my headsculpt, I paid less than 400 dollars for it. (It's an original, limited sculpt by the way)

We're not in 2016, custom headsculpts don't cost 5k+ anymore.

In fact you could get a topo outfit (not ideal) and this headsculpt for less than the price of an Artisan Joker here in Europe.

The majority of us are not elitists nor do we think that people without customs are the plebes. That's just your interpretation.

Let's just enjoy figures. Custom, stock, recasts, bootlegs... Whatever makes you happy.

I appreciate your comment, you have your experiences and I have had mine with the customs over the years. I’ve probably had more experiences negatively than you. That’s not a good or bad thing, it’s a fact.

Ledger Joker has been a dormant property for a while with the major manufacturers but there is a new wave of collectors now experiencing it. He will attract heat, I’m not the only one stating this, look 3-4 pages back in this thread as others have commented.

Yes you may have paid less than a AE Joker for I am guessing a run of 50 production or less headsculpt. But that sculpt and topo suit is not a normal or known thing to mass collectors it’s takes some digging and channeling to find. I’m sure we will see that sculpt for sale somewhere for well over $1k easily as it fantastic and you should be proud to own it. Again, that’s not normal and not easily accessible generally to anyone without significant work to find it.

Technology (3d printing and more painters) has also contributed to lower custom prices, that’s why your less than $5,000 comment holds even more weight, it is the cause of more higher quality options are out there and why your run was less than $400, more options now than the days of just a Adam Gu and the few.

Lastly with Inart, HT and soon JND at a very new and real price point of over $1,000 let’s see what it looks like in 6-7 months. Tell me what other property could command to mass collectors today a $2,000 figure set in 1/6 than ledger joker, I’ll wait.

The days of fights over $150 socks will be back again just like before but now it will be dialed up with another level of new collectors to experience with the growth of this hobby. This new mix of collectors won’t pay those prices what was 10 years ago but the constant is this figure has and always will draw elitist behavor. That’s not just my experience, you’ll find that with many collectors circles.

Let’s get back to the 50 shades discussion till the next flare up occurs.

I personally don't mind talk of obtainable customs once the paint dries. But for most this figure hasn't even been released yet. Like - if I go buy a Z01 I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it stock before I decide if it needs upgrades. Yes - someday this figure will probably age out like all of the others but as of right now it is the hot new toy and most people seem to be pleased with results.

Let's just enjoy THAT for awhile eh?

"But then the thread is dead"

True. But it will pick up soon enough and when that happens I don't think people will have problems with comparisons to the official obtainable competition. (IA/JND)

I hear you man. You prefer the “on set” as opposed to “on film look”. But in order to match that, InArt or Hot Toys would need actual swatches of the screen used fabric to base their choices on, not photos for the reasons already discussed here. Which one would think they’d be able to get their hands on, given how much HT works with the studios on these figures. The problem with the “middle ground” approach is that, there again, it’s subjective territory. They need the real thing to base it on for fidelity.
What I’m referring too. Take the actual produced suit and find fabrics for 1/6 while also printing the exact patterns. That’s the best you’ll get. You also should go with how the actual suit looks versus what’s on screen. It’s the whole Han brown vs blue parka all over again. I prefer the former.
