Honestly seeing Hot Toys use cheap glue isn't anything new. They been doing it on their figures for years now. Shame they thought it was wise to use on a limited special "Artisan" release though.

Really hope they wise up before they get around to Anakin. If not, I'm going to have to turn it into a burned EP3 version.

What? -- your hair also started coming off? From Hot Toys? An Artisan...?
Not coming off like that photo. But, it did have the large seam at the hairline that looked like a crack and a lot of that orange residue/glue on the back panel and the hair that hangs on the side of the face. Sideshow didn't give me any trouble with the replacement and it's much better than the one that came with the figure initially.

It's still terrible though regardless especially for those who can't get replacements. The silver lining is that parted out sculpted versions are easier to obtain than an InArt sculpted head in the event something like this happens, I guess. Plus 1 to InArt for whatever glue they use on their figures even if I don't usually care for how the final product looks with their variability.

Makes me wonder what happened between this Joker and the Imposter version? On initial release, this looked to be the superior version with the hair and paint apps. However, you don't see anyone mentioning QC issues with the imposter headsculpt 🤔

I wonder if the glue/QC with this figure is why Anakin is taking awhile to release

That's what I've been asking.

Since you have one, why does the hair look so dry? It's as if the wool hair was painted over instead of being dyed.

Received my sculpted from Sideshow today.

I have another one pending from a local toys/collector shop...do you guys think it'll be hard to sell it? My plan is to open both, see which one looks better and sell the other.

I think whatever product HT put into the hair is low shine/matte compared to what InArt use. InArt use a shiny and somewhat sticky/tacky hair spray. HT hair also feels a bit softer to the touch out of the box whereas you usually only get that with InArt’s after washing out the hair.

I haven’t tried styling the hair on my replacement as I’m pretty content with it as is at the moment. I’ll feel a little more adventurous whenever I’m able to nab the sculpted parted out. At that point, I’ll be able to know more about HT’s rooting vs InArt’s.
Guess that InArt one everyone turned against isn’t looking so bad now huh?
InArt’s still doesn’t look as good to me by comparison. If I had to choose one, I’d pick this HT figure over InArt’s :huh that’ll probably change when InArt gets to their 2.0, though. I’ll gladly upgrade whenever that happens

The INART one is great, but it could do with a repaint and rehair (or insane futzing of the stock hair) to really nail it. Add a custom coat and it’s amazing, imo.

I still don’t get the love for the Hot Toys DX32/33 though, especially with the outfit, but I understand most average collectors couldn’t care less for costumes in general.

You'd rather have a bald Hot Toys figure?
I’ve had my replacement going on 3 weeks now with no signs of degradation compared the original head that came with the figure with. That Reddit poster said they had theirs for a month and was seeing the degrading little by little over the course of that month. Of course, I’d be upset if I couldn’t get a replacement. If I hadn’t asked sideshow for a replacement, I’d probably be in the same spot with a bald Joker. But, as I’ve said before, my replacement is much better with no sign of orange glue or hair separating from the scalp.

Outfit is the main thing that’s superior on the HT compared to the InArt aside from the tie (neither are good) and pants length.

I don't understand how the hair can just fall out. Aren't these hairs plugged or punched into the scalp? For example like the hair strands of the Grogu 1:1 scale, or JND statues. You make it sound like they're just glued on top of the head.

HT and InArt aren’t truly rooting the hair. They’re just gluing the hair on. It’s just the terminology the community at large has accepted as the word to use for sculpts with real hair. JND are the only ones currently doing true rooted (punched) hair into their silicone sculpts.

Why the hell are inart and HT not using full rooted hair? This glued on bs is stupid and shouldn't be happening. Not to mention they are charging more money for this version. I assume HT is gluing on top of the scalp because of the sers mechanism being on the inside. They should have found a way to work around it and do a proper root job on the hair.

I personally don’t like how Hot Toys makes everything so large as in the edges of the articles and stitching. The shoes, shirt and gloves are also worse, imo. The purple coat is better on Hot Toys but it’s still typical fashion. I’d still use it though but as others have said, it’d be a bit long on the INART. I actually think Hot Toys did the tie better than INART and even JND.
