Star Wars – Empire: successful
Alien – Aliens – successful
T1 – T2: successful
Raiders – Temple - successful
Jaws – Jaws 2 – I didn’t mint it
Predator – Predator 2 – I liked it
Matrix – Matrix 2 – debatable?

Yeah most sequels work out quite well, once they start making 3, 4, 5, it usually goes down hill fast.

Off the top of my head:

The Fly 2
Speed 2
Son of the Mask

Pretty much all brought those respective franchises to a close, The original Mask is one of my all time favs.

The original Starships trooper is a classic. I remember sneaking into the cinema to watch that back in the day. I was under age and all.

Nightmare on Elm St. 2 really should have killed the franchise But somehow it was a financial success! I saw the Netflix documentary on the Nightmare franchise, and that part was easily the most interesting of the whole documentary.

Res. Evil 2. . .I don't know. Is the first one generally considered to be good?
