Super Freak
Maybe the same thing is happening to you - what made you pass on a 25 year grail?!
Well, first and foremost was the price. Another time, another place, I would have paid it. The endo and its companion piece, the police shootout Terminator, both came up on ebay last year sometime. Even though I search Terminator several times a day, they didn't show up in my search. The guy had these super generic subject lines....Scoop Skeleton and Scoop t800. They were both in pristine condition, unbuilt in box. The endo sold for only $200 and the Arnie for $50. It really soured me, but also made me more determined. I've been searching Scoop in models since then as well.
The endo I passed on came from a source other than ebay. Because I would have had to pay four times the amount (a legitimate price for it), I balked. I thought long and hard about it. Its what got me into collecting. I had one on order in 1991 and it fell through. It's driven me nuts since then. I realized that the only reason I still wanted it, was because it was the most accurate T1 with respect to proportions. The kit was great for its time, but it's dated. My hope is that Prime 1 will make a truly accurate T1 endo one day now that they have the license.
There's a part of me that still wants the kit for its pure collectability. So few were made. I know that it would have to remain unbuilt in the box to preserve its value. The bigger part of me wants to enjoy what I have, to be able to look at it. Can't understand the people who buy statues and such, and won't even open the shipping box let alone the product box. MISB means more to them than the actual item. To each his own though.
Maybe I'll regret my decision six months down the road, but for now, it's a little liberating. It doesn't control me. I may explode if Prime 1 doesn't come through though.
