Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

I like both, but Im more of a T1 guy if I have to pick one. But if I had to watch it with my children, I'd pick T2 over T1.

I saw bits of T1 when I was about 5 years old. It freaked me the **** out, and scarred me in some ways. Now, I love it. Go figure. But yeah, there is zero chance I would let a kid less than, say, 14-15 watch T1, but I can see a 10-11 year old watching T2. Despite the handful of brutal moments, overall I don't think it's that bad for kids. I think I saw it for the first time when I was 12, and I just thought it was fun. Probably on the order of Temple of Doom, in terms of appropriateness for kids of a certain age in my mind. In that sense, I do think T2 is much more "family friendly."

I have a vague memory of watching T1 as well when I was bout 4 or 5. I didnt understand english back then, and it didnt really interest me since I mostly watch Transformers and Animes back then. Only scene I remembered was the eye surgery scene, and I was thinking how was it possible for them to do that :lol

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

Eye surgery scene is the one that stuck with me, too. But I wasn't wondering how they did it, I was just thinking, "OH MY GOD! HE'S CUTTING HIS EYE OUT! AAAAAAAH!"

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

Yeah, I was wondering why I didnt remember the WIP of John Connor part though. Maybe my parents chosed to fast forward the tape or something, and I was too young to have a clue :lol

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

I should clarify that my parents had nothing to do with my watching that as a kid. :lol I watched it at a friend's house.

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

I don't remember exactly when I first saw T1 or even T2, nor can I remember which one I saw first.

T1 scarred me, was like 6-7 and it was in TV and it was at the truck scene, I was kinda scared when I seen the robot eye but then it got blown up and I was like phew.... then it rose up and I was horrified at the sight of the Endo, it just wouldn't die, I was terrified... I cried and had nightmares for weeks :(

Then I seen T2 and a guy worked in my Dads pub who looked the image of Robert Patrick, he terrified the **** out of me, done everything to avoid going near the place ha!

If we accept this, though, must we also accept that the Star Wars prequels, Godfather 3, and The Two Jakes are also part of the same "universe" as the earlier, vastly superior films that they followed?
Eh, you can't put T2 on anywhere the same level of fail as the prequels, Godfather III or The Two Jakes, kara. :slap

That's just insulting and almost troll-like, lol, if I may say. Not by any reasonable standard could you say T2 is a POS like the others you mention.

Re: Hot Toys-The Terminator (T1) MMS 238 T-800 (Battle Damaged Version) Figure

:lol what else do you watch over at your 'friend's house' I wonder :lol
I saw Robocop at the same place, and the ED-209 killing the board member had a similar effect on me. At a different friend's house, I saw Monty Python's Meaning of Life, and it also had a strong, negative impact on my poor child's psyche.

Then I seen T2 and a guy worked in my Dads pub who looked the image of Robert Patrick, he terrified the **** out of me, done everything to avoid going near the place ha!
Ha! I bet that was rough.

I'm not comparing it to those films in terms of quality. But using Frank's logic, you can't argue that they aren't in the same "universe" because they are direct continuations of the originals, by the original filmmakers more or less.

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

Oh, yeah, forgot you were referencing Frank's criteria, specifically. *grits teeth* :lol

I was looking at it more from my perspective that none of the other movies you mention exist for me in relation to what came before. Even if I agreed that T2 is kiddie (which I don't -- though I get that perspective... certainly I like the horror aspects of the original), it's still a fine sequel to Terminator and holds its own, I think.

Well the combination of quality AND it being the same original film maker does weigh in T2's, favour no?

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

Not sure what you mean here, but don't you prefer P2 over P1?
exactly.
when i was told that P2 had something worse about its characters than P1, i explored the question and agreed with that for myself. but i still prefer almost everything in P2 over P1, and the word "prefer" is strong here.
but when "you T2ers" hear anything about T2 not being true to T1, you say:
- we are attacked
- every pole says T2 is preferred
- there is nothing wrong in T2 to T1, everything fits
- dumb
- LOL
and so on, all of them met here just tonight.
that's one really messed up fan rage! i can discuss differences, you can only turn into a defensive mode immediately when you hear about differences, often evaluating to offensive mode. i didn't see anybody here trying to explain why T2 didn't behave like T1 in absolutely similar situations except for myself. for "you T2ers" there was no difference at all :slap

* * *
and yes, if T2 was the last movie, it would be a perfect finish. T3, T4, tons of comics crap are all oriented on it, they are its burden i think (and that T-1000 creature from spiderman/fantastic four company).

* * *
i also agree with a theory mentioned lots of times that the first movie seen (of two) shapes the final choice. my first movie was T1, there was a year or two before T2 appeared. i remember myself with "WTF" feeling after watching T2. even the main music theme was FUBAR :gah:

In fairness P. you will be considered to have 'attacked' T2 when you dismiss it as 'something for the kiddies', I'm sure you used words to that effect. That kind of hyperbolic insinuation will draw responses, most particularly if we disagree with that point of view, hence the T2ers come out.

Re: Article: Hot Toys-The Terminator-MMS 238-T-800-(Battle Damaged Version) Collectib

but all the kids i knew as a kid really loved T2 big time over T1!
so either it was actually oriented on teenagers A LOT (and thus i'm telling the truth) or i was surrounded by poor 12-16-year-old creatures with brains and fate of 40+ old people!

Exactly. I wouldn't want to have those films tainted in my mind by considering those horrible sequels as part of those stories, even though that's what the creators (or at least some of them) intended. That's why I get P.'s argument, even though I don't look down on T2 in the way that he does.

Sure, T2's a great sequel, and I understand why folks consider them related in the way that Cameron intended. I just don't think it's the only way a moviegoer has to perceive those films.

With the T-1000 I think you have to accept it in a universe where time travel is possible. I think you're taking that aspect for granted and not really thinking about how ridiculous it also is. Once you do that.....liquid metal man, why not. Its not like he was totally without limits anyway. The film explained them, you even alluded to them in a previous post but for some reason that you didn't elaborate on you discounted them. T-800 and AI are certainly much closer to being plausible but you can't criticise the T-1000 without also criticising the time travel stuff (which began with T1)

What do you mean about 'if T2 had been the last movie'? As far as I'm concerned it was and I'm fine with that.

As I've always said, writing the T-800 as the protector worked once, and once only. I never wanted to see it done again myself. I didn't particularly like that after T2 suddenly Arnie had to be the good guy all the time because that's what the masses liked, never mind internal plausibility or any other considerations. The 'lets go with what earned us the most money before' thing. Yes I hate what Terminator became in response to T2's success. Doesn't mean T2 itself is kiddy crap though. :dunno

Which would suggest that I saw T2 first but I really don't know.
