Wasn't the Iron Giant played by Vin Diesel? That's about as close he will ever come to Ahnuld in a "serious" movie discussion I think. :lol

I only saw the last few pages so am not aware how heavy a topic it is.

Rest assured I love both T1 and T2 and do not think one is more inferior or whatever. I am just saying the Iron Giant thing as a way to illustrate the differences between the movies. And T2 is about a boy and his robot when you strip it all back.

Hope they at least take on board the request for an extra 'clean' vest for this guy. Yeah we might be able to turn it back to front with no noticeable effect but I want a vest for my eye-surgery figure - would not be wearing a jacket thus the holes on his back would be visible.

That would be a cool version. I really like how the exposed endo eye head looks with the glasses off. It would be great to have a display with him seated like he's looking in the mirror.

T1 = B-movie horror with crappy 80s era music and wardrobe
T2 = Scifi action film/character drama

I agree wit u.

All apart of the chaos theory.

Speaking of which, here's a better Scifi horror film from the 80s,

Eat **** T1.

[Ok, so this probably seems like a slightly odd place for my very first post, but I've been lurking around and reading these forums long enough that I figure I'm comfortable just jumping right in - and with a really lengthy post, too!]

This figure has presented me with a real dilemma as I pretty much decided to buy the DX13 on the basis that no great T1 Hot Toys figures existed. To explain that a little, I should probably break this up into a couple of sections of discussion...

THE FILMS
Contrary to some other posters on this thread, I have to say that the first Terminator is not only my personal favourite of the series, but also possibly one of my favourite films ever. I totally disagree with the posts that suggest Arnie looks silly in it, or that the '80s music and wardrobe let it down - those are some of the parts I enjoy most! I absolutely love the score (I'd buy it on vinyl if I could find it!) and the T1 look Arnie is my preferred one, especially with the original clothes and parted haircut. On a side note, I love how Reese looks too; in fact, I dressed up as him last Halloween. Here's a pic, and here's the full length. Sorry my living room is no Tech Noir, but nice to meet you all the same!

I don't disagree that it's a B-Movie (it's pretty much Cameron's first feature after all, it wasn't going to be a super budget blockbuster), but I love its dark, sci-fi horror tone and the moody aesthetic. Plus I think it's just a slightly tighter piece of writing than the second. Don't get me wrong, I think Cameron is the king of sequels in terms of changing genre and really ramping things up with the action (Aliens is another favourite film of mine and, again contrary to most, I possibly prefer it to the original), but for me T2 is the first moment where his worst traits begin to seep in, especially in the Director's Cut; too much heavy handed moralising about human nature. Don't get me wrong, I agree with his points, but those bits of dialogue are awkward and don't quite stand the test of time without making me cringe a little. So yeah, if I wanted one of the films immortalised on my figure shelves at the expense of the other and the products were of equal quality, I'd definitely favour T1.

THE FIGURES
Now, as I said in opening this post, I've already bought the DX13 T2 Battle Damaged T-800 - after much agonising I must add! As suggested above, I'm not as into the all leather Arnie as I am the T1 punk look Arnie and I even debated whether I should save my money and track down an eBay seller of the old Hot Toys T1 figure. However, since that worked out about the same price and the old T1 Arnie came with very little features by comparison, that idea was soon abandoned. "But what if a great T1 Arnie is just around the corner?" I thought. But again, I decided that since it was over a year between the DX13 being announced and me being able to pick it up in-store at a UK shop, I decided I had plenty of time to enjoy my purchase - I could always sell it after all. Now we get this release and, though it's not quite my dream figure, I'm in real pain trying to decide if I want it!

Reasons I'm not sure include:
- I don't have a huge space for collecting and try not to buy too many figures - as such, I don't tend to get more than one of the same character.
Counter Argument: It's not really the same character. Plus I have a Nicholson Joker and a Ledger one, so why not?
- I don't have many non-comic book movie figures yet. Just Sideshow Boba Fett and T2 Arnie, who isn't yet on the shelf.
Counter Argument: Maybe this could be the start of something beautiful? Haha.
- In terms of costuming, I definitely prefer the parted hair, rave T-shirt, punk jacket look in T1 above this one.
Counter Argument: I also think a Terminator figure should come either Battle Damaged, or at least with the option, which doesn't happen until later in the film. And this still has the awesome guns, awesome boots and cool slim-fit '80s combat trousers.

So, barring a super-mega-most-accessories-ever-provided DX release with two or three heads, two jackets and two T-shirts this could be the best I see for a while. My DX13 still isn't actually out of the box yet (busy month or so, plus I was trying to decide if I wanted to ask my parents to supplement cost as a gift for my birthday, which is next week), and now I'm debating where my heart lies yet again! I do love the DX13 figure - it was people's own posed pics rather than the promo ones that really sold me on it - and the craft on the battle damage and clothes is amazing. AND THAT'S ANOTHER POINT; do I want two Arnies displayed with battle damage, or, since I love that early T1 look, should I hold out/seek out a figure with that costume so as to contrast with my existing purchase? After all, in terms of BD, I'd definitely say the Arnie at the end of T2 is more iconic with the arm off and everything!

I'm not sure what I expect you to take from all these ramblings by the way, but it sure was nice to get the thoughts off my chest! Not sure the girlfriend would be quite as receptive to it all as you guys :p

Dammit Difabio these guys think you're being serious in these slaggings of T1.

DeadbeatPad I can guarantee you Difabio does not let 80s fashions interfere with his enjoyment of T1. His posts are merely reactionary to anti-T2 posts. Like me he wishes everyone could simply love the Cameron stuff and $h!t on the rest like most people do.

Ohh The Fly!

Why isn't HT tackling this?
Cronenberg films should be the new Johnny Depp for Hot Toys. Fly, Videodrome, the Brood, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, A History of Violence, Scanners. . .I'll buy every damn one of them. But Terminator is better sci-fi horror than the Fly. Better than Videodrome? Maybe not.
