People could say The Terminator is for teenagers or girls with it's cheesy love story of two star crossed lovers (something T2 doesn't have to rely on). Terminator has a heroic story, tons of guns AND an exploding Tanker truck. You're fooling yourself if you don't think the original relies on running, guns, car chases and action. Besides, T2 has the same blood running through it's veins. Almost beat for beat is similar to the first Terminator. Anyone that has a problem with T2's structure, setting and tone should have a problem with T1 as well.
Got a problem with John Connor? Look at that whining waitress that is Sarah Connor in the first film. Got a problem with the T-1000 as a villain? Look at Arnold in the first film. Don't like the chase sequence with the SWAT van and Helicopter truck, or the Steel Mill finale at the end? Tell me about the truck, motorcycle and the factory in T1.
- T1 arrivals = T2 arrivals
- T-800 = T-1000
- Death of Matt and Ginger = Death of the Voights
- Tech Noir = Galleria
- LA chase = Canal tunnel chase
- Surgery Scene = Garage
- Sarah Connor goes through a character arc = John Connor goes through a character arc
- Truck, motorcycle, Tanker freeway chase = SWAT van, truck, helicopter, Liquid Nitrogen truck
- Factory = Steel Mill
- Sad ending (Death of Reese) = Sad ending (Death of Uncle Bob)
The second film is a bigger and badder version of the first. What makes the first so great can be found in the second. It takes the concept and action and times it by 10. The crux of the "problem" with T2 seems to be (and only be), "omg, the Terminator is teh good guy!" With that I say, look at this guy,
