Yoji Shinkawa explained this if I recall correctly. They likened it to primates possessing thumbs on their feet for gripping. Specifically Shinkawa designed him this way to give him a more primal sort of vibe (hence why the "toes" are also exposed instead of just regular boot designs). In this regard the "heels" are actually more like thumbs that serve as a way to grip his sword/knives if he can't use his hands or if a certain move/attack requires more legwork than his arms could manage (to further the idea of how pragmatic and deadly Raiden has become as a cyborg). Heck, the figure's specs says that it even includes an extra foot (or two?) in a gripping pose to simulate that function.

Nailed it!

wheres the specs?

Huh I'm wondering now, looking at the pics it doesn't seem to be showcased or present at all, so I can't say for sure if the gripping feet are officially included.

Toyhaven had the specs listed on their site: https://toyhaven.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/incoming-hot-toys-vgm17-metal-gear.html

To save you the trouble this is what was listed:

interchangeable chest armor!? cool, I hope its so we can have him two hand the sword infront of him, and properly should the rifle!!

I know we're supposed to be discussing about the figure, but i just want to chime in with this:

I think what Kojima is doing with the MGS franchise is brilliant. He is sooooo building up for the return of solid snake. Fans are clamoring for his return, and with each release, he's slowly building up anticipation for his comeback. I mean, it's headed there. I can imagine this scenario playing out. Either in trailer form or climax of TPP, solid, voiced by David hayter, will make a cameo setting up the events of a MG1 remake. TPP wont be out for a while, so im sure theyll pump out a few more trailers, with one trailer that will make fans lose their $#!t.

I can imagine the climax of the trailer...

"Black screen"
Big boss- are you ready for your mission?
Solid snake- .......it's what I'm born for.

BOOM

The choice to have Keifer voice big boss wasn't only a stylistic one, but it was done for story telling purposes...and I'm confident we will find out by the end of TPP.

Yup, Solid Snake is definitely making an appearance by the end of TPP. I’m pretty sure David Hayter will be voicing him as well.

Loving the look of this figure but don't you guys think that the articulation is going to be severely hindered by the complexity of the suit design?

It looked like it could handle some good poses on the pictures posted. I think it will be fine.

i think it has the same range of articulation as the ironman suits exept for the elbow erea.. hopefully we wont get any fading parts for it like the IM pink panties

did you play MGS 4..? its like a thumb for his feet if you will, lets him hold the sword and knives

I remember when this game came out there were some people who actually said they wouldn't play the game cuz raiden's feet looked like high heels!
What a stupid reason to not play such an awesome game. :cuckoo: His feet make up some of raiden's best moves too. :lecture

People just look for reasons to complain these days :lol

MGS4 was my favorite game of last gen.

So $250 and nobody's complaining?

My Play Arts MGS figures will definitely have to go. Pre-ordering this now.

I do, I was very excited when I saw the photos but when I checked it at amiami I was surprised with the price tag with all the accessories included. At first I thought maybe it's vgm dx or die cast but it's not so I'm still pretty bummed about the price. I hope this is not a step of ht to increase the price of upcoming figures.

Cant really be upset though, think of the work thats gone into this.. its not like medicom that used a truetype type under body and put the suit over, this is more like an Iron man when it comes to the design and engineering. I was expecting much more. basic fig in a suit is $200 now so $50 more for this is easily acceptable to me
