Yes I actually would risk my life to save an animal in need. And being a former Marine infantryman that should answer your question about what I would do for my fellow man. ;)

I would as well. I respect life too much (even an animal's) to do nothing when there's a chance to possibly save them.

I read that they had received three different notices that they had not paid their bill. I can see misplacing or forgetting one bill- but when you get three notices and still don't pay....I have a hard time believing that that was just an oversight.

And no one wants to add it to their property taxes because no one wants their taxes raised. It's apparently been an initiative they have been trying to add to the ballot for a few years now but no one wants to add it because they don't want to be the one to raise taxes. Bunch of political b.s. Maybe now people will demand that it be added.

Nice posting Jen! :duff This should put an end to the entitlement argument. :rock

I agree with a whole heart. And that is a choice people make. However paying your bills is a choice as well. If you don't pay please don't demand a positive outcome.

I was under the impression that the fire department was municipal and the only option for fire services. I didn't realize they were a volunteer department, so I agree that he has no case. He should have paid.

Ween it's seems most side with the fire department. This is the perfect example of the medias grasp on society. People fail to actually rationalize the situation at hand to themselves and come to their on conclusions based on inaccurate reporting.

If I were living in an area where fire protection wasn't paid for by property taxes, I'd want my taxes raised to cover that cost.

There are situations where courage is all that's required to overcome risks. In other situations, risks are insurmountable, i.e. not feasible.

have any of you actually been near a house fire? you wouldn't get within 5 feet of the door before the heat overwhelmed you. it's not a campfire. you would say "____ that" and your pets would die.

Yes, I actually have been in the unfortunate situation of a house fire. The first one my family lost everything including two cats. It's horrible and i wouldn't wish it on anyone. You never forget the smell. That said my parents at the time paid their bills and had insurance. So everything was replaced save for the cats.

Same with me. I love my dog unconditionally, and she would be the first thing I made sure was safe in event of a fire. Followed by my laptop, PS3, 360, and whatever else I could carry downstairs quickly. I don't think any animal deserves to suffer unjustly.

Surely xbox before ps3 ;)

Why and how did the animals get left inside the house anyway?? Surely its as easy to evacuate 3 dogs and a cat as it is people. Honestly WTF.

Edit - OK cats have a way of making themselves hard to be found but dogs? Just call out to them and they come running. Dogs are much more social animals, they tend to stick with people....I just can't fathom how the situation unfolded that none of the animals followed the people out the door.

2nd edit - unless the owner keeps his dogs locked in rooms or cages in which case IMO he shouldn't have animals in the first place.
