Re: people on the forum

That undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns... Can't take it with you. Enjoy life. Love the ones you're with... Collect for life.

Damn Neil, that was beautiful. :monkey2

(but I would still say overspending and large credit card debts will scour any real enjoyment you get out of anything in life, let alone the toys you collect).

Collector: "Sorry wifey. I know you wanted to fix the van so you could have transportation but I really want Batman 89 and Joker and what I want I get."

Wife: "What about groceries?"

Collector: "We can live off of ramen. Don't be so selfish. This is my happiness you are ____ing with."

Re: people on the forum

Well, to a point that's well and good. But when you have a family to support who are counting on you to not be a drunken-sailor-collector type, that philosophy needs to be taken with a coarse grain of salt. :nono

I agree, but I think that goes without saying. The point is when you have a little extra to spend, don't be afraid to spend it once in a while.

Of course you're right, but that's not exactly what "Live for today cause tomorrow you may be dead!" suggests to me. When you have kids, very often living for today is not what's best for tomorrow. I'm just saying that no extreme is a good thing here. If I die tomorrow, I would rather live today knowing that what I did yesterday was the right thing.

Re: people on the forum

I'm in college, and I don't have a full time job as yet. So for now, I tutor part-time (math and conceptual physics) and work a few odd jobs now and again to pay off basic expensive, as well as occasional Hot Toys figures. So it's all good :lol.

If you can't work right now, just be creative, look for opportunities to make money, and the money will come. You can collect if you're very determined.

Re: people on the forum

I don't have have kids so I can say what I like and do what I like.

When I die, the bank gets everything. No big deal to me.

As long as you're not hurting anyone else, I see nothing wrong with living your life as you wish, whether that means putting away money for your family or blowing it all on toys.

I can definitely appreciate that aspect of it and see where you're coming from. I couldn't agree more about your 'no extreme' point.

I'm coming from the angle that taking a million dollars to the grave won't get someone very far in Heaven or Hell, so spend it on what you can when you can, whether it be family, friends, happiness, responsibilities and everything in-between. In many cases, that may mean investing the money in something now, so that your future will prosper. There's so many ways to interpret it.

thanks everyone for replying and telling me their experience with this expensive hobby.ive read every comment and appreciate the feedback.going to be a few years before i have a decent size collection but looking forward to it.

I've been out of a relation for the last few years therefore I have disposable income. Almost got married about a decade ago which would have probably affect what I have today. My ex has 4 kids now...... and none with me :monkey2

:D

Almost my whole family is dead VS.

I have one niece who will be taken well care of by my mother.

I owe money on my house so the bank can have it.

I should mention in here. I do save for my retirement. Any cash I have AFTER bills are paid goes into this hobby.

ohhhh.... sorry to hear that. You can always give your collection to a worthy charity but hey you only live once right?

:exactly: Your absolutely right :clap

Work = $$$. Live on less than you make, and you have some left over for the useless but enjoyable crap you want to buy. Keep the wife and kids happy, healthy and entertained ... and whatever's left you can do with what you will.
