I started collecting once I got a job working in a comic shop. Getting this stuff at wholesale makes it a bit easier to collect. But I did recently run into a bit of a problem when I went pre order crazy and all of my statues are starting to come in back to back. First the Legendary Scale Emma Frost Bust, then the BTVS Faith Statue, Catwoman Museum Statue.... next month is Lara Croft PF and the month after that my Archangel Fine Art Statue. After that last one comes in I'm cooling my jets for awhile.

Honestly it's just a matter of budget. If you want a figure bad enough you'll sacrifice the movie you were going to see or so on. That's how I do it.

But the other issue is, where do you display dozens and dozens of figures without converting your house/apt. into a wax museum?? Some people seem to have a hundred or more statues and life-size busts.... seriously, where do they all go???

Both my wife and I are physicians so money really isn't an issue.

It's really a matter of space and taste.

Everyone is different but sometimes I really hate the way my collection looks because it is so cluttered it looks like a garage sale even though I have things tucked away that s ridiculous.

For instance, I have an SDStudios pulse rifle made from real gun parts. Only 50 or 60 were ever made. Once I get an HCG aluminum shroud into it only about 5 or 6 total in the world. It's worth about 5 to 6 grand. And it's lying on a 10 dollar Ikea accent table because I haven't figured out where to put it.

Stuff like that drives me crazy.

More than the money, it is the SPACE and how you DISPLAY your collection that matters.

There's a great saying from The Incredibles:

"When everyone is special . . . then no one is."

That can apply to collectibles too. Great pieces can get lost in the clutter which is really a shame.

If you have a job that pays a decent amount, I promise you that you will run out of space long before you run out of money.

Thing is I can hardly afford this hobby. After getting laid off I've found it very hard to balance leisure with necessities.

So yeah, trekking on rough times....:(

Almost my whole family is dead VS.

I have one niece who will be taken well care of by my mother.

I owe money on my house so the bank can have it.

sorry to be a lil blunt, have u decided what happens to the collection if anything happens to you,
im single too at the moment and frankly no one i know in my family knows the value of my collection and no one has seen it too, because they are away at a flat where none of my relatives bothered to visited me, i sometimes think id leave it to my nephews but whatever action figures i bought or gifted them i had to take it back from them in 4-5 pieces :lol , there is one kid of my cousin who is a very creative , his dad hardly gets him any toys so he ends up making his own with paper and whatever stuff he can get, not to mention he can draw a little too, hes only 10 by they way, his bedroom is already like a lil museum with paper creations :lol , in a way he reminds me of myself in his age,.

Sell it before you can't for some reason. And use it toward retirement. Donate if it makes you feel better. I certainly won't to any religious purpose, that's for sure. Or pass it on to relative. Eventually I have to let go all of these superficial objects anyway.

How I afford?

Exactly right!
There are now so many IM in my collection that the best ones just get lost in the crowd
I have created a new room just to show case a few stetues at a time. Using higher qukaity display cases. This way I can set back and enjoy them without the clutter, the rest get rotated. This way the collection always stays fresh.

It works best this way and you don't have to worry about the space

I tried the selling your blood thing before but they say it takes weeks to register and going through the process. I did donate blood twice. But after hearing the Red Cross sell their blood to Johnson & Johnson, when I was interviewed for a position there, I just got turned off.
I guess if I ever need blood, I won't feel bad since I did donate.

You mean you get paid for giving blood, how much? I make it a point to donate blood every 3 months as the local hospital is always in short supply. Must have given more than 20X, we never got paid for giving blood, imagine the things I can buy with the $$$

Re: people on the forum

I don't have have kids so I can say what I like and do what I like.

When I die, the bank gets everything. No big deal to me.

As long as you're not hurting anyone else, I see nothing wrong with living your life as you wish, whether that means putting away money for your family or blowing it all on toys.

you are a free spirit! :hi5:

No I didn't get paid for my blood. I used to work for Johnson & Johnson way back from my last career. I worked as a temp(full time but without any benefit). The first room by the entrance is the selling of blood room, basically. So I see people sitting there and I wasn't sure what its all about. I was told its for people selling their blood plasma. I was told I need to be screen which takes time.

So I donated blood twice after that but for free. And both at a different location.

Then I got an interview at the same place I used to work at Johnson & Johnson. This is the time after I graduated and can't find a stinking job so I went back to my previous career. Interviewer said they do buy blood from Red Cross. That so turned me off.

Oh well, such is life.
