How many prefer OT characters over PT characters?

There seem to be a lot of fans with the same problem they accuse Lucas of. Star Wars is not their own. Those who have no issue with culling from everything available in the license, that which they prefer have the right approach. Those who believe that the existence of elements of the license which they personally dislike are somehow degrading that which they do like, are in serious need of a check on their grossly overbearing pretentiousness.

I am arguing for the continuing availability of the original trilogy precisely to maximise everyone's enjoyment of SW. I may not enjoy them, but I have nothing against the SEs, EU or any other incarnation of Star Wars existing.

What upsets me is that Lucas is actively trying to suppress the foundation of everything that has come after it. Its not like when he withdrew some obscure embarrassment like the SW Christmas Special that barely anyone had access to outside of bootleg copies. He wants to do away with the original version of the films that defined Star Wars almost entirely for twenty years.

I'm not going to get into the same old pathetic arguments, if you don't like certain films, DON"T watch them!

I LOVE ALL SIX FILMS! And I have nothing but respect and admiration for Lucas. He gave us Star Wars, and for that I'll always be in his debt!

In terms of characters, here's my top ten:

1) Qui-Gon Jinn
2) Darth Vader
3) Obi-Wan
4) Anakin
5) Yoda
6) Luke
7) Tusken Raiders
8) Darth Maul
9) General Grievious
10) Watto

Over all, even though I love the saga as a whole, I grew up with the OT, but I find the story and character's more interesting in the PT!

Says a grown man who appears to idolise The Punisher...

Hmmm. A man who kills violent criminals who don't think they should be held accountable for their actions. How appropriate for you to say that. :lol

I dont know about others, but when I was a kid the little bit of talk in ANH about the clone wars got my imagination going.

:lecture:lecture:lecture

Hmmmm, a narrowminded OT elitist, or a narrowminded prequel apologist. I'm not sure which i'd rather be.

Oh wait, yes i do!

I don't limit myself to the PT, so that was almost as big a fail as your life.

Well, OK we're really straying off-topic for a toy site, but since I am up late already doing work and tomorrow is a federal holiday in America...

Here is a list of ethical principles as articulated by the Josephon Institute a non-profit, non-partisan organisation, whose ethical framework is frequently taught in Anglo-American universities as part of accounting and auditing courses (yes, I got out an old textbook):

1. trustworthiness
2. respect
3. responsibility
4. fairness
5. caring
6. citizenship

Of course these are not universally regarded, but the auditing profession, the one Western societies entrust to certify trillions of dollars worth of transactions each year, feels these are worthy of being taught. And I'm pretty sure we're not a bunch of Communist hippies....

Lucas violates several of these for the reasons I argued in posts above, particularly respect and caring. I contrast Lucas' conduct with Ridley Scott, who allows the original cuts of his films to remain available, even though the studio at times actively prevented him from putting out the film he wanted to. Lucas essentially just wants to make the OT prettier and extant scripts have to the best of my knowledge Han Solo (my first love :love) shooting first. He is being a spiteful putz.

OK, that was a long reply but I was not kidding earlier about how the grudge I bear Lucas. :emperor As an alternative I supposed I could have just invoked the South Park "Free Hat" episode.

I hear all this BS talk about respect. Yet the irony and hypocrisy of your posts is almost laughable. Those films belong to Lucas. Yet you're incapable of respecting the fact that he wasn't satisfied with how they came out and wanted to make them into what he'd always wanted. It's his property, but you can't respect that. As a film maker, he's responsible for making the best films he can and the fact that he went back to add to them, and enrich the overall experience, whether or not you like the end result, he still took responsibility in that. As for fairness and caring, he did hear all the whining tittybaby rants and released the original, untouched films on DVD, so I don't know why you're still whining about that. You quoted staples for fair treatment yet with every post in this thread, you yourself haven't embraced or even shown one point from the quote above in your behavior.

That makes no sense. How is he actively suppressing the foundation of everything that has come after it?! If that were true, there would only be the OT and nothing after. No PT, no toys, no Eu, no Sideshow Star Wars. So again, what point was that meant to make? Or did you get so deep in your own posts you actually forgot what you were trying to say? :lol

Getting _____y again Nam? Strike a chord? See i'm not a narrowminded OT elitist i just PREFER the OT. Yeah i don't care for the prequels but i don't disregard their existence i accept them. So the 'fail' IS ON YOU for that comment.:rotfl

LOOKING TO GET BANNED AGAIN WITH THAT COMMENT? Did someone call you a name? Or make fun of you to make you comment to me like that? No you're just weak and childish. (and calling someone an apologist which was not even directed at you personally is not the same as what you did, post reported!)
I've said it before and i'll say it again, it's no wonder nobody here likes you. You will not last on this board. Cause you're weak, rude, and a blemish on this site that i can only wait until permanently removed.

/IGNORED for the last time.

I hear all this BS talk about respect.

Given that from the moment you first began to respond to me you have made a string of escalating personal attacks, it is quite clear you think "respect" is just a bunch of BS.

And my response was to devilof76 who asked legitimate questions about my earlier posts that seemed like a fun challenge to reply to.

So calling me a PT apologist isn't namecalling? :lol FYI, egotistical people who think their ____ doesn't stink usually smell the worst. Bro, you need a bath.

In my book, you have to show respect to get respect. You're blatantly attacking someone for modifying something that he owns to make it what he originally intended. If that's raping your childhood, you really need to rethink your life. :lol

The OT is classic and the best of Star Wars.
The PT was ok(not spectacular) until they made ROTS. ROTS to ROTJ is my favorite 4.
TPM was pretty good. It's what got me back into Star Wars. Since I was too busy partying and chasing girls from the 6th grade to graduation.
AOTC was pretty boring until the end. It just made me watch the OT more. I even wore out my VHS tapes. lol

Depends on the character, both have equally cool and lame ones. But in general IMO OT has more characters that appeal to me, that Id spend money on.

No one has thrown EU characters onto this fire... :)

Okay,folks....the "discussion" is getting a little too "spirited" in here.

Granted, it is a loaded topic that's assured to provoke some passionate responses either way, but some of the back-n-forth is veering close to "personal attack" territory...

Let's take it down a few notches please.....

Awesome, another PT sucks thread.

Well, since theres a ton, why dont you let the people hate the movies?

Lotsa people hate KOTCS. I love it. However, unless they bring up the reason they hate the movie is either the Fridge, or the Aliens, I can understand their hatrid. While I like it, I see the problems with it.

I never got this need to defend these movies. Let people hate them. Just as I let people like them....who cares...

Oh and by the way, AOTC is one of the worst movies ever made. :D

Sorry, couldnt resist. I can "handle" TPM, and ROTS...but AOTC is just unwatchable. Hated it the day it came out...hate it now.

How was I defending the movies? I recall you getting your panties in a bunch over people dissing Watchmen.

And KOTCS did suck, and that is why you musta liked it :)

Without a doubt I would prefer the OT movies. Collecting wise I would love to see more Jedis ...Separatist Droids ...Clone commanders.:)

Ok, this thread was lots of fun, but I'm moving on (thanks for your reply Star Puffs). I just wanted to say before I left that ANH is indeed a brilliant film, and ESB is the greatest film ever put to celluloid.

I also wanted to say that anyone who thinks AOTC is one of the worst films ever made has probably spent less than 20 years on this earth and has a whole lot of movie-watching homework left to do.

Well said, 76.:D

I grew up with SW OT in hard times when my country was under Soviet rule. SW had a unique impact on the children of that time and even more on the children on this part of the world. PT will never be able to replace that. I watch PT, I enjoy it but that is it. There are too many things wrong with it, for me to try and love it as I do with OT. For me Darth Vader never said "Ypeeee"...

i dig them all for the most part. i prefer the ot movies but there are a lot of prequel characters i like.

As a general rule, I prefer OT characters, but there are PT characters I love too... Maul and Qui-Gon being my favorites.

Just to throw out my opinion on ranking the movies (your mileage may vary):

ANH
ESB (technically a better film than ANH but nothing will ever top ANH for me)
ROTJ
ROTS (so close to being good... so close)
TPM (Jar Jar knocks it under ROTS)
AOTC (this would get dead last if for no other reason than the dreadful, awful "sand" line from Anakin)
