Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

Me too! What time and theater are you going to?

Me:
Jordan Commons, 5:15pm.

My brother got to go to a free, advanced screening yesterday. I got a free pass at school and of course I had a class durning the time. He loved it though and can't wait to see it again on Saturday.

2:00 at the Megaplex out in south jordan. I thought we were going to Jordon Commons (since that is my favorite theater in the valley) but my wife's friend scored the tickets chose a theater closer to them. Too bad. We could have had a freak hookup. You could have brought Jabba. :lol

Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

Loved Luna. Loved Bellatrix. Loved the wizard fight. Loved more Voldemort though he didn't have much dialogue which was a shame.

A good addition the HP movie set, but not great. Maybe my third favorite film behind #3 & 4. Felt rushed in spots, sluggish in others. There wasn't really a central mystery so I didn't feel as engaged in the plot as I was in the other films. It just unfolded in a very linear A->B->C->... fashion without any twists or turns.

Wow Entropy - i couldn't have summed up some of my feelings better than what you just said. It does sit behind 3 and 4 in the series for me as well.

Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

I just finished reading the book for the second time so I am ready to see this! I'm going to see it at Imax in 3D which should be interesting. Tix were sold out for the first several days so I'm going this weekend. Can't wait!!! And I'm going crazy waiting for the last book to get here.

Re: HP- Order of the Phoenix

I saw this at 12:20 AM this morning and let me tell you I think its the best film of the summer so far. I didn't read the book but have been an avid fan of the films and went with my wife and sister in law who is a HP Freak and has read all the books four times over. She said there were some really evident differences but all in all it was close to the book, I can't wait for the 6th film and definitely wish someone had the 1/6 license of this. At the age the kids are now, you could probably get away with putting them on adult bodies....

Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

ok so who else here thinks that natalia tena is freaking hot??? i know i do. and the wizard fight at the end was pretty cool even though it was very short.

Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

Just got back from seeing it. Overall, a very nice adaptation. Was really really looking forward to the entire sequence at the end.....not only was the very last confrontation a bit short, but the confrontation just before that(this is really hard to word since I don't want to go into any spoilers) should have been much longer. There was so much more in the books on that whole sequence and I enjoyed that more than the last fight.

Staunton as Umbridge was brilliant and Luna was cast beautifully. Rickman is fabulous as usual, but had just a little more concentrated screen time in this film so that was great. Too bad McGonnagall's part was cut so much. Speaking of cuts. Was I the only one who felt the editing to be below par -- especially in the first half? Seemed just too abrupt and hurried; didn't allow for those short, reaction moments that generally sell a scene.

Re: HP- Order of the Pheonix

Loved EVERYTHING but Hermione. I think she did a better job acting in the first movie. I just watched Sorceror's Stone on ABC Family and I wonder why she couldn't act like she did in that movie, she was GREAT. Just downhill from the first. At least she isn't doing her eyebrow thing again, but I just don't see her being the brainy, loveable Hermione at all. I don't know what it is, I didn't buy it.

Loved Umbridge, I wanted to smack that woman around (about the same feeling I got while reading the book, so I guess she did a great job). While the end scene in the Dept. of Mysteries did seem a little rushed, it was amazing. The voldemort/dumbledore duel was amazing (even if it looked like they were throwing colored lightning at each other opposed to throwing curses/etc at each other, I still loved it).

The only real compaint I can say is MORE HANS GRUBER...err, I mean MORE SNAPE !!!!! The next movie is really going to let him shine and I'll be waiting for it.

i agree with you 100% i love hans gruber as well.... but can someone clue in a person who hasn't read the books. what significance does Snape play in the rest of the books???

This movie was worse than Spiderman 3. It was so diluted and often times lost in it's own world. Lots of things seemed pointless, like the Cho Chang thing. And why introduce new characters if they dont even do anything?

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....I dont' want to spoil it for everybody who hasn't read book 6, you can send me a PM if you really want to know, but IMO, snape is the most important person in book 6 and will probably be the most important person in book 7.

Next to Harry, I agree with you 100%. :rock :rock

The people who have seen the movies, but haven't read the books, really need to read the books. I saw the first two movies when they came out, but wasn't into them at all. Didn't bother with the other movies, but a few months ago I decided to give the books a try. Now I'm hooked. I read all six over about a two month span and they were great. I am so glad I got caught up in time to be able to read book 7 on the 21st.

I'm doing that right now. I'm on vacation til the 23rd and I plan on reading books 5-7 while I'm off. I'm about 250 pages into Order of the Pheonix so I'll have a HP filled vacation. Already have book 7 reserved.

And I already know the major spoiler about book 6 :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

My cousins are in town this week, so we went a bit earlier than originally planned (still going on Saturday though).

SPOILERS

I liked the film overall, but I felt Siriu's Death wasn't handled right. It was almost like, "Oh yeah. He has to die here. Lets hurry and get it over with."

Bellatrix casting the Killing curse (which I don't remember in the book, but he is 100% dead now) was too quick, and him gliding back into the archway was all wrong. He was supposed to be BLASTED in, and the veil wasn't some wizard power goo, it was a real veil that moved away from the archway.

They did do the right thing with the no noise after his death, but anything before that was just done wrong. I felt very little for Harry, when in the book I was just as devistated as he was.

On a brigher note, Dumbledore seemed a bit more like the real Dumbledore in his office talking to Harry at the end. Still not Harris good, but better then "HARRY POTTER!!!" Dumbledore from GoF.

This was a really kid-centered film. All of the teachers (besides Umbridge) were practically cameos. Heck, Filch got more screen time than Snape McGonigal (and probably Dumbledore too).

Snape was awesome, even if he was barely in it. His line and expression when Umbridge asks him what Harry ment by "Padfoot" was :rotfl

Umbridge. I did dislike her, but not like I loathed her in the books. I think this was due to miscasting. I'm sorry, but my High School English teacher WAS Umbridge. Everyone that had read OotP said the same thing. I guess that no one else was going to do for the part but her, but still she wasn't the best choice. She did alright, but not perfect like Rickman or Harris.

Yeah, the confrontation between Bellatrix and Sirius bothered me in the film.

In the book, Bellatrix's curse on Sirius was a green light (which as never identifed as the killing curse), and then a red light followed (which I'm assuming was Sirius' countercurse). And I believe the countercurse is what makes him lose his balance in fall into the archway.

In the film, you see the green light and the killing curse being spoken, but not red light in return. And it looks as if Sirius goes limp and falls into the archway. My friend is convinced that even in the film he did counter the curse and fell as a result. I didn't catch that.

Anyways, his loss didn't hit me until after Harry tells Voldemort that he'll never know what it's like to be loved or have friends and that he pitied him. It was then I realized that Sirius would never return.

I just hope that the choices the director made for this film doesn't contradict things that will happen in the last book, and throw things off for the remaining two films.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Red Light = Stupify! and Green Light = Avada Kadavra. It always seemed to me like Bellatrix did THE BIG curse on Sirius but it missed and the force of it through him into the veil.

Can't wait to see the movie.

Word for word what I did and what I think. :duff

Just got back from seeing it... and i must say I'm very dissapointed!!

The whole film feels rushed, you see a scene for about 20 seconds then of for the next!

and they didn't stay true to the book :( They changed so darn much! this was more a film inspired by a book then based on a book!

everyone seems to have cameos exept from the main characters, I must however say that some actors did a splendid job with what they got!

Umbridge: I hated her! Great!!
Snape: he did a great job with the little time on screen he had!
Voldemort: Fines made a superb job! felt the chill down my spine evertime he had a apperence or just he sound of his voice!

All in all the film was a huge dissapointment :( Can't believe JKR approves this:confused:

well I will agree with you that they finally voldemort into an enemy which can actually insight fear for the wizarding community. his fight with dumbledore was amazing. as for it being rushed, it was a HUGE book to condense into 2 hours, I would have liked to see another 1/2 hour added to the movie, I wouldn't have minded. Am seeing it again on sunday imax 3d, so I will see if i have the same opinions second time through.

Just saw it today - they did change a lot. In 3 and 4 I thought the changes actually IMPROVED the story. For this one, I'm not as sure. JKR must have approved of Sirius's death though. I always thought the book left it open so she could bring him back. But the way it's handled in the movie he's definitely gone. I had a problem with Filch knowing about the room of requirement and just not being able to get in - that didn't really make sense. Cho being the traitor worked better because it gave some more drama to her and Harry's relationship which needed more beats the way they handled it. Luna got short shrift as did Creacher. And once again Neville gets the credit for something Dobby did in the book (gillie weed in GoF and the Room in this one).

However I thought just about everyone did a great job - Staunton didn't look like the book character, but she was every bit as hateful. Even Gambon, who I didn't like in GoF, played Dumbledore well. I would have liked to have seen more of Tonks, and more of the battle at the end, but overall I thought it a good addition to the series.
