like it or not, Jackson remains popular.

That's right and I will do my best to make sure he remains popular, and is always seen in a good light. Michael did so much for so many people and asked for nothing in return other than for mankind to love one another and try to our world a better place. That's the kind of person I look up to.

I would have been honored to have known him in my lifetime. I am just SO SORRY that I never got that chance.:monkey2

Its as good as any other choice. No legitimate reason not to make a MJ DX, the others sold well and Hot Toys is guaranteed sales of this one as well. Its just good busniess imo.

MJs are probably one of their top sellers so as others have said, from a business perspective, good move. I personally am very happy for the announcement. Could always use more MJ figure IMO.

I think everyone saying it was a bad decision is just bitter their personal choice wasn't announced :lol

I love the Thriller figure... I was thinking about just keeping the zombie version, but both are too cool for school.

I don't care that HT chose MJ as the subject of their next DX, I just don't feel like it's actually a DX at all. It doesn't come with much and the only thing that sets it apart from the previous releases are the PERS eyes. That's it. Well, if you count the display base (which is oddly still based on the TDK prop displays) then that's one extra thing.

I guess that means PERS is the signifier to divide regular MMS/Icon releases and DX.

I hope this isn't the start of a trend in the DX line. Looking back at Joker and Batman, DX03 comes with next to nothing.

He also comes with multiple display options. So there's three things that distinguish the DX so far, I guess. Googly eyes seem to be the only significant difference from other releases, though.

I think its a bad choice cause I'd rather see them make figures from movies/tv shows than real life people. If they're gonna do that I want a Michael Jordan figure,Tiger Woods, or Albert Pujols.

I agree that they had to jump on this one quick because the MJ Hype is bound to burn out soon. Im not denying his popularity, Im just seeing the collectors community moving on and saving their money for all the big summer film license solicitations if this thing is due past 3rd QTR

I would have to disagree that MJ is necessarily one of there top sellers. The first version really wasnt popular till after his death and didnt even get US distribution, the only other HT license that didnt get US distribution last year seemed to be The Spirit.

I think they could have easily sold more units of a Rambo release or Robocop, or even a V2 Predator 1, but like I said earlier, its probably all timing, get it out there soon while we still care.

OK according to Nicky's opening post I won't vote. Its not a figure I'm buying and although I think theres no reason why Michael Jackson shouldn't be a DX figure I personally would have been more attracted by a film-based choice - specifically from Terminator or the Reeve Superman.

So I'm happy for the fans and not majorly annoyed at the choice because its not like it means that what I do want isn't coming.

Yeah, right... :lol

I don't think that was the case...
HT was working on the Thriller MJ before his passing, so I'm sure they wanted to do more version of him.
The only way it affected the release of this figures IMO is the production #s.

I would imagine getting the license to make MJ products was a long process for HT. They just happened to be in the right position to make money on the popularity increase from his passing as they were holding the license.

It's gonna happen somewhat. It's just a matter of how much is the hype gonna "burn out." This was discussed in another thread, but we all know there are hardcore jack-o fans out there that are not going to care any less about him in 5 years than they do now, but that's not the majority of Jackson fans, or general fans of pop culture stuff that are interested in Jackson now because he is in the public consciousness due to his death.

The MJ figure is not just for the "collectors community." Clearly he has wider appeal because die-hard MJ fans (and there were a lot of them before his death) are willing to buy anything MJ related, sometimes no matter the price. The Yamato MJ figures, the singing Black or White MJ figures, and the Hot Toys MJ cosbabies all sold well before his death. Besides this, he has a huge fan-base in Asia where a lot of their figure inventory is sold. Business standpoint, any MJ figure is a good investment.

Beatles, Elvis, Bruce Lee...
come on people...

The last 2 rose to legendary heights after their deaths, especially Bruce Lee, while it can be argued MJ rose to those heights before his death. I'm one to believe MJ hype will never die down, as long as his music still exists.
