For what it is worth ......... that Rascal Flatts song that the kid sang is a nasaly song as sung originally. That is simply the way that singer sings every song. The kid on AI was trying to duplicate that. I am not a fan of the show, this singer or Cowell, but even I could see that.

Simon hates Country music and knows nothing about it. He's a judge and he didn't like it.
(I've never heard of Rascal Flatts or that song either.)

It was a really bad performance and Simon told it like it is.

It wasn't really appropriate for the kid to mention the shootings, but it was even more awkward for Simon to say something as well. Idol is irrelevant, but 90% of the time I agree with Simon.

Simon's opinions are usually correct--he just shares them in a blunt way.

And I didn't like Chris trying to pull at our heart strings and play on our sympathies in an attempt to distract us from his poor performance. Ryan started the show with a comment about the shootings and that was all we needed.

I would've rolled my eyes at that as well.

Using a tragedy to get the sympathy vote is a sleazy move. Does this kid think anybody involved in the tragedy is watching their crappy "talent" show? Why give a "shout out"?

It takes a special kind of low to step on the backs of the dead to get a stupid record contract.

An awful tragedy at VT to say the least but it has no place on AI nor does the misplaced "shout out" to the victims and others affected or the percieved reaction of one celebrity justify any media coverage.

It was a kind of flippant and shallow thing to do. I think he erred on the side of stupid.

Yes, I agree. No matter how sincere Chris may have been in making those comments, there is a time and place for things and that wasn't either.

The dude just knows he is going home soon, he has been in the bottom two/three a lot lately (along with Phil), I guess being a Justin Timberlake wannabee can only take you so far.

I applaud Simon, he tells it straight, and sure he doesn't always have a glossy finish to his words; but someone has to do it.

I hope he gets the boot really soon and I also hope that America doesn't fall for his sympathy act. Such a timberlake wannabe and he isn't even any good at it. :lol

Why do you guys hate American Idol so much? If you don't like it, then just don't watch it, but why all the hate?

I rarely catch it, but it would suck without Simon. He calls a spade a spade. When Paula is sober she's just a kiss-ass. You need an opposite for that. I guarantee if they dumped Simon they would replace him with another prick. He's the guy you love to hate and he is usually right.

I don't hate it, in fact I was wondering the same thing myself. Why does this show bother people so much and why do they take it so seriously?

I don't hate the show. I just don't like it (anymore) and I don't watch it (anymore). I was just simply commenting on the article posted along, what I think of Simon, and my views of the situation.

I hate the show with every bone in my body and I don't watch it. To me its a show full of people who are not quite talented enought to make it. If any of these people put out an album before American Idol, it would be in the bargin bin after a year a two, but put them on some dubm show, instant fame. And to make it worse it the worst style of music they do, that poppy KISS FM crap.

I can't speak for others, but my voicing of bitterness towards the show is based on the importances it's coming to in our culture, ie. news broadcasts hyping up who got booted off and things of that nature where the media make something like American Idol a priority in our society, along with everything in the entertainment world, and forgive me for using a recent and sensitve thing, but Britney's latest bender or Idol's new winner shouldn't be news headlines along with stories like the Virginia massacre, it devalues the stories of real worth and importance and things people should be aware of. Many people need to be burst out of their perfect world happy joy joy, follow Britney and Idol and all that lives and realize how messed up this world is by seeing stories like Virginia thrown in their face until people start to do something about it. AI has it's value in the world, but it's grown to have a value far greater than it ought to.

Hey Maulfan have you ever read anything by Neil Postman? If not, you really ought to, he is/was an excellent critic of the modern media-driven culture -- especially worth reading is Amusing Ourselves To Death.

Even though I myself said the show was irrelevant - a previous winner just won 3 awards at the Country Music Awards. The first year winner has won a Grammy.

I watch the show from Tivo so I can skip through singers like Chris and Sanfartya (although even at triple speed, Sannie's song seemed to take forever last night). There's always some entertainment value, although the last hot girl went bye bye last week.
