Good rebuttal Josh--- I'm of the opinion that we'll all be quite happy once the end of May roles around...

The sky is not falling.

SS is different than most of the companies out there with SW lines. Plus they never announce everything they're gonna do at the start of the year. I'm glad they don't makes the year fun IMO.

I can see why they don't announce ahead of time, because disruption to schedules and quality control issues etc, but I would like to know what they do have planned in advance. I know that sounds contradictory.

In the past they have made announcements for lines, e.g. The 'Six Guns' line told of a Wild Bill and a Johnny Ringo that never eventuated, another reason they don't make such announcements. I climbed onboard that particular line with the hope that these figures would be made. I am not bitter that they weren't made, but I did get an idea of how many figures I would be up for prior to climbing onboard. Budgets are getting tighter, so information in advance is vital to me. I prefer smaller lines and it's why I haven't bothered with Star Wars.

Whatever we say, the juggernaut has it's own path, ******.

Homer shouldn't get bashed. Some of the things he says rain true. I'm in for the OT figures only. I didn't care for the zillion of figures that could be made, I'll leave those to the freaky-geeks that need to complete. For me its OT only, but true characters of the OT, not background characters that were never recognized the first three times watching.

P.S. I remember TOY FAIR used to be the days when SS announced their big plans. If SDCC is the new in it goes to show the decline in maturity in audience. It's time to put down the comics and read books and novels.

Homer has made a valid assessment of the business aspect of this line as it stands now. Sure, it could probably be remedied with a handful of exciting announcements in the coming weeks and months, and I hope it will be. But right now, I'm having a hard time moving the first four mint-in-mint-box exclusives of the 12" line, to create funds for the Dioramas, and this is telling me that this line isn't exactly on fire.

And, of course, I saw how little these same exclusives were going for at NYCC, and how few of them ended up being actually sold. And all this at a convention geared exactly to the target audience.

In short, I'm much more inclined to be concerned about this line, than to find "clever rebuttals" of any kind.

Thanks :) Hopefully it will be read as a nice other end view and not some rantings of a supposed fanboy.

I get ya. We know who they will do and everyone else is a nice suprise.

I agree.

Then you need to go to SDCC. I've seen so many people who are as old as my father so I don't thik this is a fair statement.

I'll be honest - I didn't read HS or Josh's posts completely, but SSC ain't hurtin' right now, no way, no how. In fact this is a renaissance for them in many ways. Yea, a lot of this is due to Star Wars but whether a figure sells through in a month or 6 months - they don't care.

Dave, is there a reason why there haven't been any announcements for so long? It just doesn't really make sense.

I ask the same question, but about LOTR.

That's what I said but you said it a tad better than I. :lol

Well, I found Homers post to be a very interesting read....end of the day, we'll all know how close he is - this should be a very big year for SS in the Star Wars line.

IF they do not do core characters, people will burn out of this line. There are many hardcore fanboys here that want those 'never-before-made' types, but the rest want their Lukes, Hans, Vaders etc.

Well thanks for a reasoned set of replies, unlike the bashing I got last time!!!:D

I will answer some of the points made earlier latert tonight, but for now I'm flat out at work, but on thing I will just say, Darklord Dave, I'm sure sideshow do care whether a figures sells through in one month or six months!!!! If they don't then I'm sure as a business they are doomed!!

I want the iconic figs as well (especially from ANH) however if they were all given in the first two years then where would the line go but down?

So far we've been given Luke (ROTJ), Han (ESB), Anakin (ROTS), and Obi-Wan (ROTS) [soon Leia (ROTJ)] as core characters in the first "wave" (for lack of a better term). Probably this year we'll see four or five more core characters added (along with the few on the peripheral)--- hopefully with the 30th anniversary the core character will centre on ANH (and since we haven't seen any yet it seems logical to assume so...)

Obi-Wan (ANH), Luke (farmboy- ANH), C3P0 & R2D2 (ANH), &.... dare I wish it... Chewie (ANH)... That'll calm everybody's nerves until Admiral Ackbar comes out for pre-order in November and then the sky will be falling once more.

I look forward to the pre-orders with anticipation--- Life's too short to be worrying about what you can't control. I'm enjoying the SS ride and if it ends abruptly I'll just have to actually save my money (that'll be a shame).

I think an earlier poster touched on this briefly. When you're dealing with Star Wars collectors, most of them are connected to the original movies. Consequently, they want the core characters made. I think the Derjerik Holo Chess set is an 'out-of-the-box' move by SSC (certainly something Hasbro would've never done or thought of doing). But to have a piece like that available BEFORE making core characters? I'm 38 years old and have been collecting SW toys since 1977.

August 4th, 2006 was the preorder for the 1:6 scale Leia Boussh. That's almost 7 and a half months since a core character was up for preorder. I just wish somebody from SSC would come on here, lay their cards on the table and explain. :chew

I've been collecting since '77 as well... I have my reservations about the chess table (specifically the price)--- I think however that we should be patient until May... If there aren't several mindblowing announcements/pre-orders then I will join you in your questioning the direction of this line...

Patience is needed right now I think. Good things are around the corner...

What's to lay on the table though really? They've said in the past they will not announce what's coming because production issues could cause changes. That being said patience is the key because I think 2007 will be even better than 2006 once the year ends. People are getting worried in March when we still have C4, SDCC, and like 5 months left.

I agree. Patience is the name of the game plus it is just too early in the year to be worried about lack of announcements. The Star Wars line is fine and Sideshow is not going under.

I'm pretty sure Sideshow is doing just fine. They were doing ok before Star Wars and I'm sure they'll do fine afterwards.

The only thing that may sink the company is the lack of a Selene PF figure. It's probably getting pretty close to a revolt and boycott from their loyal customers because of the lack of an Underworld license. :wave
