I wont lie, that looks better then it should. Not something that I really care about seeing to be honest..

Saw a preview last night... the whole take jacket off put jacket back on was dumb. You can't top Wax on, Wax off. And if Chan is teaching him Kung Fu why is it called Karate Kid? Aren't they different?

Haha, since when do movie titles always accurately reflect the actual movie? As for the jacket thing, I prefer that to wax on, wax off. At least they had the decency not to try to redo one of the most famous movie lines. It would be cheap to do so.

like remaking a classic isn't? :huh

Oh no, it absolutely is cheap and I wish they hadn't, but there is a certain quality to remakes. For instance, the first remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was excellent. On the other hand, (I thought) the remake of the Wolfman was horrendous and did no justice to the original.
All I'm saying is, since they've already gone and remade it the least they can do is not reuse such a famous line, you know? :monkey3

This movie looks terrible....
i love will smith to death but this is just a way for his son to headline a movie, and for jackie chann to look like an idiot, again.

Not that i dont like jackie chan but his last few movies have been...less than perfect?

I just watched the trailer. Is it me or is this like an elementary school kid? LOL! What a joke. :lol What's next "Karate Kid Who Stole My Binky" :rotfl

.....I think I will watch that film. I was sceptical of them really having a kid play the kid but I'll find out for myself what its like. We'll always have the original trilogy anyway. Speaking of I actually really like the third one. I haven't read the rest of the thread so I don't know if I've just nominated myself for a verbal pasting but yes III is actually my favourite Karate Kid film. I just loved Terry Silver and the Miyagi fight scene was the best in any of the 3 films IMO.

The only thing I didn't like was Daniels fight with Mike Barnes at the end - I think having gotten his ass handed to him to badly throughout the fight we needed to see more of a payback than him just..I can't remember what it was exactly but I think he just dodged him, tripped him up and punched him one while he was down and that somehow won the fight. I just can't help but think there'd be some ''epilogue'' text at the end saying "..but outside in the parking lot Mike Barnes exacted his vengeance for having lost the competition by snapping Daniel's spine over his knee". I wanted to know that Daniel could fend for himself and really could beat up Barnes if it came to it but on the evidence of the film he'd be totally owned outside of the rules and regulations of an official fighting contest.

II is my least favourite. I can't remember why exactly but maybe thats exactly it - the fact that I can't remember.

I don't know about you...but I had a hard time watching the 4th film "The Next Karate Kid." I love Part 1 & 2. Part 3 is cheesy but tolerable.

Briefly from what I saw, I did like Jackie Chan in a role like this! Meaning he is getting old now anyway and can't actually do the movies he used to do, so for him to start to switch over to the wise old master who teaches others is kinda cool. I'm not saying this movie is good, or him in this, but I just liked seeing him being an old master kind of guy now. Seems fitting.

The truth is kids will probably enjoy this... what's funny is they obviously have a much larger budget to play with on this and seem to be trying to merge Karate Kid with Crouching Tiger. The martial arts this kid is doing are waaay over the top... but again something kids will probably like.

The original Karate Kid is not about beautiful landscapes and visually striking martial arts. In the original the transformation is fairly believable for Daniel... he's good enough at Karate to beat up on some privileged white kids.
