I'm gonna watch this and root for the kids from China.

:lol:lol

.....I think I will watch that film. I was sceptical of them really having a kid play the kid but I'll find out for myself what its like. We'll always have the original trilogy anyway. Speaking of I actually really like the third one. I haven't read the rest of the thread so I don't know if I've just nominated myself for a verbal pasting but yes III is actually my favourite Karate Kid film. I just loved Terry Silver and the Miyagi fight scene was the best in any of the 3 films IMO.

The only thing I didn't like was Daniels fight with Mike Barnes at the end - I think having gotten his ass handed to him to badly throughout the fight we needed to see more of a payback than him just..I can't remember what it was exactly but I think he just dodged him, tripped him up and punched him one while he was down and that somehow won the fight. I just can't help but think there'd be some ''epilogue'' text at the end saying "..but outside in the parking lot Mike Barnes exacted his vengeance for having lost the competition by snapping Daniel's spine over his knee". I wanted to know that Daniel could fend for himself and really could beat up Barnes if it came to it but on the evidence of the film he'd be totally owned outside of the rules and regulations of an official fighting contest.

II is my least favourite. I can't remember why exactly but maybe thats exactly it - the fact that I can't remember.

I like all three, but my favorite still is the first one...
though I like the interaction between Daniel and Miyagi in the third a lot!

Briefly from what I saw, I did like Jackie Chan in a role like this! Meaning he is getting old now anyway and can't actually do the movies he used to do, so for him to start to switch over to the wise old master who teaches others is kinda cool. I'm not saying this movie is good, or him in this, but I just liked seeing him being an old master kind of guy now. Seems fitting.

It is fitting, but he should've known better...
There's no honor in beating the crap out of 10 year olds... it's pathetic...
Looks like something out of Bad Santa...

The truth is kids will probably enjoy this... what's funny is they obviously have a much larger budget to play with on this and seem to be trying to merge Karate Kid with Crouching Tiger. The martial arts this kid is doing are waaay over the top... but again something kids will probably like.

Yep, this is just Smith's brat "Daddy, I want another pony."

The original Karate Kid is not about beautiful landscapes and visually striking martial arts. In the original the transformation is fairly believable for Daniel... he's good enough at Karate to beat up on some privileged white kids.[/QUOTE]

I think the second one did a great job visually too... and the fighting was more extreme...

I think it looks good. :dunno

I'm sorry for all the die hard fans out there, but the second and third Karate Kids were terrible compared to the first one. The original is a fantastic film and will always be remembered, but the second and third are poorly acted with bad storylines and terrible dialogue. I like to pretend they don't exist, just because like the Matrix it spoils the first one. Just my opinion though.

Nah the second was just as good as the first IMO. The third yes, was pretty bad but I still liked it for some reason. Probably my age then. LOL!

I'm with you on your thoughts.

A Karate Kid marathon was on this past weekend and I watched them all....even the last one...albiet while I was doing stuff around the house and they showed the previews for the new one and they should have given the movie a different title. The first Karate kid had so many themes going on, teenage issues, Daniel's home life, Mr. Miyagi issues, right and wrong, relationship b/n Daniel and Miyagi and the fighting wasn't over the top or anything. In the previews,
the part where Jackie is trying to catch the flies with the chop sticks and then uses a fly swatter sums up how this movie misses the mark and should go by another name. Just my opinion though, I'm sure kids these days will like it.

I disagree. In some aspects I like the second one more than the first one. There was a lot more development between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel in that one than the first one IMO. Also, the ice breaking scene = :rock

Ahhhh. the ice breaking scene. That brought me back to my old school NES Karate Kid game when I was a kid.

Haha, I knew that comment wasn't going to get past you fans. No I understand what you're all saying and I have the same ideas for some of my favorite series, for example, Indiana Jones. The Last Crusade is my favorite, but most people consider Raiders to be the best. I have a soft spot for Sean Connery, hence my username.
I was just saying that in my opinion, in terms of overall quality, the first Karate Kid was the best, because as Vader AL said, it had a lot going on for the story and the characters. The second one was fun to watch, I just didn't consider it to be nearly as good.

the part of the story in the 2nd film I really enjoyed was we got an insite on Mr. Miyagi's past and why he left his home and saw the abuse he took from his old friend during most of the movie and he just turned the other cheek and also the relationship b/n he and his "girlfriend" and how she suffered just as much all those years he was gone by not getting married, etc. so while the first is better the 2nd has a special place too, for me anyway. Not as complex of a story as the first but it put more of the focus on Mr. Miyagi so I see part 1 as Daniel's story and part 2 as Mr. Miyagi's and Mr. Miyagi is a human yoda so that's why he is awesome.

Didn't the same guy that played the co pilot in Top Gun that Maverick was first assigned to after Gooses death play in that scene? He tries to break the ice and the ice whoops his ass. LOL!

Sundown?? Yeah that was the same dude....he was the "token black guy" in both movies.

I really liked the Karate Kid Part II, but what I did have a problem with is Daniel's seemingly erratic and inconsistent karate skills. He was supposed to be pretty good by the end of the first one, then on top of his game in the second one, but in the third one he seemed to be almost as bad at karate as he was before meeting Mr. Miyagi. I loved Chozen as a bad guy more than Barnes, who seemed like a tougher and more immature version of Johnny. Also, the Chozen fight at the dance with Daniel is the best fight of the entire series. No tournament, no point fighting, which is why I absolutely love Part II. While I have problems with Part III (Terry Silver's character and his "scheme" was one of the most unbelievable parts of the trilogy) you still can't help but love the Miyagi dojo scene. Chozen was the most badass of all the bad guys, and Daniel beat him (abliet a drunk and insane version of him) in a fight to the death. For this reason, number II is my personal favorite.

Personally I'm happy to see the Chinese martial arts get a big production showcase.
I'll definitely be taking my son to see this.
