You likey? I've been in the dark ages for awhile. 7 year old system. Looking forward to maybe showing my boner to a few girls with the high def cam on the monitor.

I switched over to Mac in about 2008 with a MacBook, and somewhat recently got an iMac in the October 11 as I needed the upgrade since I was doing more detailed work.

Going from a 13" monitor to a 27" was a huge difference but now the monitor seems like such a normal size to me and whenever I use a 21" iMac at college it just looks far too small. So I definitely agree with Maglor, can't imagine going back to a smaller monitor.

Can see the children really shining in here. Saying that nearly most of the same conduct appears everywhere on this board, sadly. If it's not name calling it's showing their insecurities that then falls back to name calling. Got to love this social media generation. Especially those that post like they were on AIM and not a forum.

Setting aside my Linux preference for a moment and just comparing Mac to Windows, Mac wins for me hands down.

1) I know enough about UNIX that I would feel comfortable trusting an OSX box with my data and not fear it being infected as is too common on Windows machines. Windows allows far too many global functions to be initiated by a non-admin user. If someone is a ******* in OSX they might lose their home directory, but the root directory structure would remain intact. Root user creates a new /home/user and there's your recovery process.

Heh, I've read some great topics over the years regarding that. Amusing rants and rage threads. Especially some users that aren't so savvy and chose to run as root on a daily basis.

In windows you may very likely have to re-format and re-install.

While it's not related... thats one of the things I love about Super-Duper. Cloned and bootable without altering the partition.

2) Apple takes the user interface more seriously that anyone else. They do everything possible to make computing simple for the beginner. I gave my two eight year old daughters each an itouch for christmas last year. They never, not even once, have asked me how something works. They picked up those ipods and went nuts. I've watched them and they've Bluetooth connected them to play Asphalt 6 head to head. Show me a Windows or Microsoft product with that type of user intuitiveness.

The thing I love about the OS X UI is how fluid it is. It makes everything so much better for your work flow. It's one of the things I keep hearing from graphic designers and such professionals. They detest how everything on Windows is part of that window. Plus a lot of things are badly cluttered in the apps on Windows. Don't get me wrong I do love Windows 7 but it isn't fully there yet. The worst part is there's no consistency.

I detest how everytime I go back to Windows and keep forgetting the alt key isn't command and the Windows key isn't alt.

There are things I don't like about Apple too. nobody's perfect. I don't like the "Walled Garden" istore approach to selling trusted software. At least on my android I can opt to install from untrusted sources, meaning I can take responsibility for my device in a way Apple wouldn't trust me to do.

I don't like that Apple won't allow third parties to license and build OSX boxes. I think their slice of the home PC market would expand substantially.

Pretty sure it's because some people abused it. (It's not like them is it?) It once happened with the app store where some porn app? got through... it was years ago so I can't remember the exact details as it was on many news sites. I think that was when they brought in moderation for submitting apps. If it doesn't meet guidelines, it's rejected and stated why.

You can't blame them though, look at the stupidity in todays generation though. Remember when some geezer was trying to sue Apple because he kept his volume at max on his iPod? Seems so many will try to sue anybody for the daftest things. Can't blame them for keeping things locked down. Security failures is such a touchy subject nowadays.

I don't like that Apple only markets to home and education uses. I wish Apple would try to win the enterprise. I'd love to see more businesses with Macs in their cubicles. Apple is dropping the ball. Google is going to go for this market and Apple and MS will be blindsided.

Apple always was geared towards consumers and designers. I remember before the Intel switch you use to see on so many special edition DVD's, the film editors/creators or such with Mac G5's working away.

Even to this day I see enthusiasts that are pro photography, video creation, web design and anything really heavily graphic design related are nearly all using Mac. More so the Mac Pro's and while they're on the go using the Macbook Pro's. The amount of money they pour on hardware and some of the graphic/video software is really something. But it is their business after all. Can't blame them if they want the best. Considering some have spent $20 grand plus, between the stock hardware, upgrades and everything they need for their work.

Time is money and the last thing they want to be doing is tinkering with a Windows box. They just want to be getting on with their projects.

I have had my Mac since 2009. Have done nothing to maintain it and it works just like I bought it 3 years ago.

Probably nearly runs 24/7? OS X does it's maintenance every Saturday morning at 03:15 for 5 - 8 minutes. Some other maintenance scripts run on Tuesday/Wednesday mornings as well about the same time.

However, enjoy your purchase, Bodie The Cursed.

Very well executed post. Everything you say makes sense, and stuff I know, and there is stuff I have now learned because of you. And you're right on tinkering with the operating system. Time is money. I have a lot less issues with my Macs, and my focus has been on my projects. I love that. Sure I pay a lot more for the product, but at the end of the day, I can get that money back. I can't get that time back. Ease of pain, non-hair pulling, and enjoyment is worth the extra smackers IMO.

Technically a mac is still a PC. But I know what you mean. Mac owns. :rock

I tried explaining that to someone at Best Buy a while ago and all I got was a blank stare and glazed over eyes like I just threw down some Good Will Hunting math problem.

Sent from my iPhone located on the planet Hoth.

They probably didn't like the apples. :lecture

Normally when there's a refresh, the price stays the same. But with an optional retina upgrade I'd say atleast $500 more on top of the base price. I'm waiting for the refresh too on the 23rd :)
