We did not speak about their choice though. Why Gandalf? Which is amongst the top of the Asmus line and has been recently released, so many people won't justify getting a new one, in contrast to releasing it e.g. 3 years from now. Why not Frodo or other characters from the fellowship that are sold out, or have room for improvement? I think most of the people were pulled in with the Asmus Gandalf missing the older figures (incl me :). Looks too bad choice to me that can surely lower the quantities sold.
I think it's as much a flex as anything given they are also releasing a Nazgul which has a similar release date to Asmus'.

I had read on here that they deliberately avoided Frodo and the other hobbits, couldn't recall the exact reason.

Tbh there are a limited number of characters that are universally popular from LOTR. Gandalf, Legolas and Aragorn are the big 3 and they're releasing all of them. Gimli would have been an option but they might have the same reservations as with the hobbits. Boromir is popular but not in the same league as the others so he might follow at some point later if the line sells well.

That’s true he did wear a prosthetic that lengthened his nose. Even in your picture the nose hangs over the mustache more and look at the thin lips. Also compare the skin tone. While Inart has more realistic skin tone, it’s like they exaggerated his age spots. And also the eyebrow shape. It should be more angled than flat across. The nose is shorter in the side profile for Inart. However the droop does look better than Asmus and some of the shape of the nostril area. The forehead though is smaller too and brow ridge less prominent on Inart.

These comparisons are just revealing more flaws and inaccuracies in the sculpt and paint work. It’s okay though they have time, they expressed interest correcting and they are close to nailing the likeness. It’s mostly issues with proportions.View attachment 578067View attachment 578069View attachment 578068

This is what I meant.

No major issues. Small things here and there. But if the pronounced nose is an important characteristic for someone to recognize Gandalf, and it's not there, then the likeness suffers from it for him.

Asmus' Gandalf has many issues. No need to whitewash that fact. Let alone the realism compared to Inart. But the characteristics I need to recognize Gandalf are there, while they are missing from Inart. For me. That's all I was talking about.

Yeah, ok, so this looks better than the Asmus in every way. 😆 I already have their Joker preordered which is very expensive and now this. With the limited PO time, limited places to order from, and high price I don't know if I'll be able to pick this up. I probably won't be picking up too many InArt figures, tbh. Looks great though, even if the likeness isn't as strong as I'd want it to be.

**HOW TO TAKE CARE OF 1/6 GANDALF THE GREY'S HAIR**
I keep forgetting that these will have magnetic bases to the foot and it's such a nice thing to see even with how simple it is.

Being able to just pop the figure securely onto a base without a crouch grabber will be nice for sure.

I'm happy with Asmus Gandalf, but when/if they PO Aragorn I will definitely be on that one.
I do really like my Asmus crown GTG but as he’s one of my favourite characters, I want perfection if possible. I’m hoping their crown GTW will be an improvement too.

Found it interesting that they posted the care video so far in advance
Could be that they're trying to prepare collectors for when they recieve the figure next year and the hair and beard are wild and don't look exactly like the prototype striaght out of the box, so they can just prepare you and tell you you'll need to style it and take care of the hair as per their instructions.

Asmus has recently released Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas... so InArt is boned no matter which main character they choose to preview first (of the 3 they chose). Frodo and Gimli both bring a new body to the table so they were likely pushed until InArt sees how this market does.

I do think the likeness needs fixing, the eyes are too dark but then the Asmus ones were blue. Still looks nice though, I really hope we see more new licenses.

Also really dig the magnetic base that should be a new standard.

I think we're going to see a lot of these opinions. This is already an expensive hobby and InArt is raising the bar with a 200% price increase on these figures. If these figures come out of production as good as the prototype, then sure, it's justified. But even with a justified $500+ price point, how many of these can collectors keep up with? Surely people who have to budget to fit in several Hot Toys and other sixth scale figures per year can't be getting these at the same rate.

I really doubt a magnetic stand is any kind of improvement. If a figure is unbalanced, it will topple over. I assume you won’t be able to pose the feet none other than flat against the surface. What if you want to pose the figure walking with just one end of the foot touching the ground (think of Mando)?

And what about diorama bases with uneven surfaces?

Magnetic bases would only be good for plain museum poses.

They’re not the future of anything, imho.

Glad to be proven wrong, though.

I live in earthquake country so magnetic base is a good thing for me. A little wobble can topple many figures. I don't like stands though so, even if magnetic, I might not want to have the floor space taken up.

I need feet that can stick to glass. Give me that revolutionary new gimmick!
