What's your opinion on the first one?
The viral campaign for this one was very good.
I never really cared for it. I was really excited for it based on the awesome trailers but the whole thing just felt like a less inspired, goofier Return of the Jedi. This new one is still pretty derivative but I really liked the tone and the tactics of the aliens and humans this time around. It *does* have a few silly moments that are played for laughs but I did crack up (at the right times) and it never undermined the excitement of the battles IMO. It is quite the orgy of visual effects (it's very dense, a lot going on in every frame, etc.) but in a good way.
Must disagree with Khev and Ween. Didn't like it, I think the first one wipes the floor with it.
I suppose it may seem a laughable thing to say but, compared to the first one, it felt cartoonish. The whole thing was a video game cut-scene to me, I felt no connection to any of it.
How could you prefer the first one to this? How??
In all seriousness though what did you actually *like* about the first one? And were you drunk when you saw this one?
Well I had to drink afterwards to drown my sorrows over how typically over-escalated and generic this sequel was. If the first one was so crap why did you even watch this?
Far as I'm concerned you have no right to prefer this if you didn't even like the first one
I preferred the ''present day'' setting and technology of the first film. Just more identifiable. Sure, it was a logical thing that we would have adapted alien technology and built new cities in the sequel but to me it just wasn't as engaging to watch.
Ah, okay. You like War of the Worlds and I like Robotech. Obviously the new ID4 was heavily skewed toward the latter.
I think the last film I enjoyed in the cinema might have been Terminator Genisys of all things Maybe my expectations for that were just so damn low that I couldn't not enjoy it on some level.
So, Emmerich is saying DC and Marvel ripped off ID4.....
The destruction, according to him.
He also thinks cbms are silly or something? Has the guy watched his own movies?
