Re: Indiana Jones 5 (July 19th, 2019)

Shia's acting and the intent of the character was fine, but the combination of the poor script and Indiana Jones being neutered were the Crystal Skull's biggest problems.

Indy went from a hero that openly shot a man in a crowded market full of on-lookers in Raiders, to a man who only drew his gun once in CS, and all of the villains met their demise due to the results of their own actions. This was a conscious decision by Spielberg, Lucas, and producers to soften the character. The result was putting the character in situations where the viewer never felt that the hero(s) were at risk, coupled with the fact the hero(s) that did meet their demise were created solely for this movie and the viewer had no connection to them, making their deaths feel empty.

And get rid of Koepp while they're at it. He hasn't been any good since Jurassic Park.

Re: Indiana Jones 5 (July 19th, 2019)

The only way this would work is if it's a rated R, gritty, neo-noir action thriller drama where Indy and Marion die at the end.

Or as an HBO miniseries.

If only. I would love for them to go dark again. Sadly, the powers that be don't seem to think darkness works with Indy. Oh, and its Disney-fied now too.

They should have had Kasdan write...
The man responsible for "Dreamcatcher" and "Mumford" in his 50s shouldn't have been considered to write anything outside of romcoms for old women.

Sure he might be well past his prime but if the choices are between the writer of Raiders and the writer of KOTCS I know who I'd choose...

Re: Indiana Jones 5 (July 19th, 2019)

Choose NOT to do this movie.

Hopefully Spielberg and Ford's "busy" schedules will never meet for time.

yeah that is our only hope but boy if it's made it has curiosity factor and that's about it...

If the trailer has Indy stepping into the holding place of the ark of the covenant and he adjusts his hat and says: Marion, we're home!...

I will ****ing scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can choose not to go see it, read every news item, complain about them...

There's a lot of good things about KotCS.
Unfortunately they're too unimportant and small in comparison to the bad ones.

Re: Indiana Jones 5 (July 19th, 2019)

That early car chase scene (that ends up in a university study hall or something) was sufficiently Indy to me. Not sure about the rest, I've only seen it about 3 times. I remember the bad stuff though, the stuff that had my wincing or yawning in the cinema.

edit- out of curiosity I just searched KOTCS in the Rate the last movie you watched thread and found this post of mine:

For some reason I felt compelled to watch Alien Vs Predator again - 3/10 - crap

And Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 6/10 - not crap, just not as good as the other ones, a little boring in the exposition parts and a smidge too silly at times - not even talking about the fridge.

Seems like I eased up on it.

Only if you think Last Crusade, and its comic antics, is the definitive Indy. There are those that do. But there are those who prefer the PT also.
