I don't know why this argument is still going strong...but I'll bite one more time.
What three lines just "died"? I know Hasbro is no longer producing, but what are the others? And what line provided "fillers"? Did they call them that?

Gentle Giant, who I had the bustups preordered with and had a Motorcycle Henry/Indy statue planned, and Noble collection, who's props were a massive failure. There 50% off at least now.

OH and Kotobukiya who only produced 2 of at least 3 planned maybe 4, statue diormamas and then canned the line b4 the 3rd release due to lack of interest.

And with Hasbro, they had Raiders wave 2 ready from the very beginning, that the wave with German Mechanic, Toht, Marion, etc, and instead of releasing it, they made the Monkey Man and Cairo Swordsman stuff because they said that people were less likely to buy them later. Theres your filler. They also botched the paint apps, but when fans complained they fixed them.

The LC wave that people wanted was awesome, but no one could find them, and when stores would order them, theyd send the first wave instead that they already had, thats why there are like 300 Indys and Mutts in any given Walmart.

Hasbro responded saying depending how well that wave and the upcoming TOD sold, theyd release Raiders wave 2 which they previewed.

But then it turned out TOD was only available on etailers, they never got to stores except in one state. And only in 2 differant stores. Hasbro claimed this was "testing the market?" w/e...

So then they said that the Collector base wasnt enough to give us Raiders Wave 2 not even in limited quanity online like Mattycollector does. Yet the 4 times Hasbro put up the ToD wave on there website in there own Onlinestore at Hasbro.com, it sold out all 4 times in under 2 mins. Mola Rams were going for $40 on ebay. It was hell.

Theres plenty of thread about it at theraider.net.

But ultimately they admitted they led us on. Not to mention they made things like Mutt w/ no jacket that doesnt even appear in the film, or the Jungle Cutter, an expensive vehicle which ultimately ended up in the movie for under 10 secs literally.

And another thing to consider that Hasbro said killed there line. That Indy 4 did poorly and no Indy 5 was planned.

Star Wars on the other hand has the animated series on weekly and another upcoming live action show, while there is nothing in the future that would spark an interest in Indy again.

Yes, I believe I JUST stated that on the previous page...

But your comment seemed more about praising HotToys and included stating that Sideshow never producing any big lines other than Star Wars, which was/is inaccurate. Bond had several figures, Buffy, Universal, POTA had quite a few as well. And that's just a few. Additionally, I'm actually grateful that Sideshow actually sees their lines through into deeper characters, like Faramir, even if we don't get a complete Fellowship, etc.

How do you know this figure isn't just a filler like Ep II Obi-Wan or Praji while they develop a more complicated figure like Mola Ram? Something tells me we'll be getting some Kali Ma. I'll take that bet.

How do you know it is? And why the hell would we need a filler figure only 3 in?! :huh And coming hot off the heels of a botched figure like Belloq? They should be saving the fillers for between movies like after producing all the main Raiders characters, drop Germain-disguise Indy before jumping into TOD (IF it even gets that far :lol). While I don't think it's "the end," I do think it was a poor and rather easy choice and quite possibly may have Sideshow thinking "WOW, the Indy line's sales blow. Guess the fans don't like 1:6. Should we consider putting it on hold?" A shame all the way around really, especially when you're dealing with a license whose market is almost exclusively collectors.

Deckard...I couldn't agree more that Hasbro really blew it with the Indy line, on a lot of different levels.

I knew GG had canceled the "bust-ups" and statue, but they also canceled some of the SW ones too. But I'd attribute those items disappearing to poor quality of the released products as much as anything else...I saw that Indy on Horse stature and the first Indy bust...neither looked too good...soft sculpts and lousy paint apps (issues I'm sure GG wouldn't agree with) as well as belt-tightening that is happening everywhere out of necessity.

Didn't know about Noble...that's too bad.

Nam's point about other Sideshow lines is well taken...POTA kept going, offering a few characters like the mutants I never would have imagined seeing the light of day, and the Buffy line kept going for a while as well. Now that the big year (meaning one with a new movie) is over and the market has mostly moved on, maybe Sideshow's approach is to keep offering Indy fans and collectors some more figures for a while...are we going to see a complete collection of every major character we'd like to see? Unlikely...we still have the fresh reminder of LOTR's "on hold" status to remind us of that.
Will we see more versions of Jones that may utilize tooling and accessories from earlier releases? Absolutely, and why not?

I know this new announcement has started a small, but loud storm in here...but I'm hoping that when the PPO arrives next week with more pictures and details, folks will simmer down and either wait for the next announcement or cue up for this figure....I'm in the latter group myself.

I'm still thrilled at the thought that ANY company is offering figures from Indiana Jones...

Bond never had 40+ figures, nor did Buffy, or POTA. You are lucky to see 7 or 8 figures out of any license. Star Whores is it's own merchandising juggernaut no matter who holds the license.

Because it seems fairly obvious that they are doing all Raiders figures first before moving into TOD. And let's be honest, just how many TOD figures do you think we will get? Indy, Mola Ram, Short Round, MAYBE a Thugee. I don't see TOD going too deep nor Crusade for that matter. Let's not even bring up that POS KOTCS because that would surely be the end of the line.

Yea I waited a long long time for this, so it hurts to see Habro botch it.

But I'm hoping this does sell, so I can see more figures like Henry Marion or Mola, I'm just not going to support this figure, i refuse to after all the other company dissapointments.

An exclusive and low edition size will help, but a Map Room? It'd be at least 5 times the size of the Idol Enviroment and it's also gonna have to come with the Staff of Ra and an Alternate Robes costume for Indy. Seems like a longshot to me.

I'm just happy to see SS picking the line up where Hasbro left off by giving us 2 figures Hasbro only teased us with. I see it as collateral damage for them slapping us in the face.

And the Map Room environment could be 2 pieces with 2 figures, Indy and Sallah.

That would be excellent. Though I'm not holding my breath for Sallah. Love to have him, but I just doubt it.

As I said earlier, it's almost like they have some personal grudge against John Rhys-Davies :(. They dropped the ball by not making his General Pushkin in their Bond line (a key character from Living Daylights no less !) and they didn't even try at his Gimli which is a permanent blemish in my eyes (for shame! :lol), so I don't think we'll see him here either. :huh

I had an idea last night, that a Marion might be the exclusive for this Indy. Don't know why, just popped into my head. Wouldn't that just :rock :rock :rock!

It's a shame about the Hasbro line. I got the TOD wave on eBay and all the figures were top notch. I'm curious what they could have done if the line continued. And that is some sucky info on the Kotobukiya statue dios. I have the Raiders one and it looks great.

I really wish SS would have went in a different direction with this line, but I will have to get this new one, even if I could bash one for around $30.00. I'm a sucker, what can I say.

I had an idea last night, that a Marion might be the exclusive for this Indy. Don't know why, just popped into my head. Wouldn't that just :rock :rock :rock!

I was joking when I said maybe this new Indy will come with an exclusive DIETRICH... but it would be cool! And I'd love a Marion as well! Hell, I'd take almost any additional character.

It's the production paint and the floppy body. Trevor's sculpt was phenomenal.

And the jacket was a let down for alot of people. I think its ok, but alot of people hated that material. But yea Trev's sculpts kick serious ass.

It's not that it came at the same time as the PF, people waited 20 years for that kind of an Indy figure, Toys McCoy was like the only other option.

I dunno I'm pretty happy with my Indy. Looking at going back for Belloq and am excited for Toht AND German Indy. Guess Im just not that hard to please.

I think part of it, Justin, is that SS wants to keep prices lower than HT. Sure they want to remain competitive in quality and detail, but I don't think they're ready to produce $130-160 figures.

Makes 2 of us then. I like my Indy a lot and like Belloq quite a bit too for that matter. I think Thot looks pretty bad ass (enough that I'm getting both versions) and think this one is pretty sharp. Actually I've got a second Indy that josh is working on. That will go with my dio and the extra head will help finish my map room Indy (of which I had to get extra parts for like a custom outfit) and that goes with my prof jones too. So SS is doing ok with things so far. But maybe I'm easy 2 please 2.

I'm happy with my Indy....he has a floppy neck but once posed and left alone it isn't a factor with me. I'll be here on Thursday watching to see if I order....if the exclusive is something cool then I'll bite if not then I'll just wait and see in hand pics before ordering, the last two entries in this line haven't been too hard to find on the secondary.

I can understand the choice of character in some ways - it's got to be one of the cheapest figures to produce, from an R&D perspective, that they could do. The head sculpt already exists, and almost certainly so do the patterns for the uniform (didn't Hasbro abort a 12" German disguise Indy figure - could SS have purchased the pattern from them?) But I think this is the wrong economy, and wrong line, in which to introduce character variants so early. It took me a while to actually realise that this was a new figure - I glossed over the thread thinking it was a custom, because I never suspected SS would give an Indy variant (and a pretty dull one, IMO, at that) so soon.

I just don't think the sales of the other figures suggest that people will go for another Indy so early, and if sales of this figure are very slow I don't think it will matter what else they might have in development, I can't see SS continuing to pour money into a license that isn't delivering on sales.

I'll venture a guess and say that with this figure, Sideshow is simply picking up where Hasbro dropped the ball. The 12" Hasbro Indy in German disguise does indeed exist, but it's extremely hard to find. I know. I used to own one; found it at Kroger. And there are collectors out there desperately searching for it. So, although the numbers might be small, there is obviously a segment of the collecting community out there who is interested in this figure. So Sideshow makes one, probably at a low production cost, while (hopefully) continuing to invest in the R&D of more complex characters like perhaps Mola Ram. I'm sure we'll see another 1:6 announced at SDCC (I expect Marion at some point. I demand Mola Ram).
