And, as you said, I am not at all surprised that here at the Freaks board... it is ripped apart just like everything else that gets drug in here. :lol

It is kinda sad that negativity seems to be a prevailing wind here anymore. I do it myself, I focused on the aspects I didn't like and glossed over what I did by saying the rest was good.

I think that CG effects have their place in film, but to me it seems like Lucas in general relies too heavily on it. How about going back to the Classic Trilogy and adding in brand new flashy CG scenes that do nothing to make the movie better just because you can? (which also was a nice way to take Han's balls away from him by having him not fire first, but instead do a glitchy wall-hack manuever to avoid being blasted first or get photoshop edited up and over a videogame animation of Jabba)

I think Lucas has gone through 2 periods in his career. Before the Prequels, he was a director with a good focus on storytelling. However, I don't think that's where his passion lay, and with the growth in filmmaking technology, his real passion emerged, which is creating wild visuals. He loves to bring amazing visuals to his films, which is a good thing, but, that's the role of a contributor to the production of the film, not the head of it all.

Thanks a lot guys... I will not be seeing this film. I loved the Indy Franchise but from what you guys are saying, the heavy use of CGI and ridiculous and implausible action(Mutt w/monkeys, crazy waterfall stunt, Dopey Gofers) I will not be seeing this monstrosity in any theater, or, in the future on DVD from the discount bin at Jacks 99 cent store.

It sounds like this should never have been made. I have heard the same things from co-workers who saw the film today and I trust their and your opinions.

Time for Lucas to turn over the reigns of his franchises over to more capable hands.

Remember... "Howard the Duck"
You don't have to see it in the theater necessarily, but you'd be stupid to let other people make up your mind for you. It's definitely worth watching in my book, despite some problems.

If you read the new making of the indy films book, it says --

George and Steven both say the idea is that these ALIENS CREATED THE HUMAN RACE.

Well, YOU CAN'T DO THAT when you already had Indy 1 and 3 prove that the stories of God and Christ are true.

There's nothing remotely to suggest that in the movie, is there?

Great review Jedibear... and it really mirrors my own feelings on the movie. Everything you said, I totally agree with.

I agree and I enjoyed reading your thread, just highlighting this thread took up less space.

That's true, but they did soften that a tad by inferring that Akator was in fact El Dorado, and man has been looking for that almost as long as the biblical relics.

Perhaps if they put more of a spotlight on how sought after it was, it would have helped. Again, as a viewer with little knowledge of history and myth's, you can't help but pick up whispers about holy grail and the ark and all from conversations about other stories and such, but KOTCS seemed to touch on myths that the average viewer will know no background on and won't realize there is a legitimate past to the story. Thankfully the internet exists and we can have these dialogues which can enhance the overall experience.

Did I like the movie? Yes....Did it have more than just a few flaws? Yes.

That's pretty much my take, DarkArtist's take, same with jedibear and everyone else who doesn't completely hate it.

What's funny is that some of you claimed to enjoy it yet your discussion paints an entirely different picture.

Is this a case of The Glass Is Half-Empty/Half-Full??

Sometimes, disliking something is easier to articulate than liking it. An example, I'm a big Michael Jordan and Star Wars fan, but I realized long ago, if people asked me why I like them, I couldn't easily put it in words, it's just a feeling. Same with collecting, I can't explain why I enjoy it so much, but I do.

I enjoyed watching KOTCS, but I can't articulate why I liked it, just say I did, but the things I didn't like are quite clear to me and I can put them into words. These human brains of ours, make no sense :lol

True that... It's just the way the human brain remembers things. We have an easier time remembering painful or horrible experiences than the good ones. That's why bootcamp is so effective, because of the use of negative reinforcement.

My Wife does that all the time, one bad thing happens, and she swears the world is coming apart around her, yet if a good thing happens.. she is just waiting for another bad thing.

I hate that aspect of humanity; it is so easy to get caught up your immediate world and sometimes feel like it's all coming down on you, then something outside of that comes to your attention and you're like "^^^^, I don't have it bad at all," but no matter how you may know at a given point that people in the world are far worse off than you, doesn't stop your brain from making you feel like your life is horrible when something goes wrong in it.

Back to Indy, the power of the film personified in this thread, not only does it entertain but it also sparks some deep and profound discussion as well.

That's just being prepared. As a pessimist myself I've found that whenever I allow optimism to creep in it usually gets crushed.

I totally agree. I spent many years of my life struggling with depression and grief, thinking that God himself was out to punish me. That perhaps I was better off dead. So I don't like to waste my time with that anymore. I try my best to remain optimistic in my daily ventures. Even when I get down, I immediately remind myself that life is too short to wallow in one's pain.

And agreed. I love that the film has sparked such deep conversation in this thread. My post count is BULGING. :lol

So is this forum's. We'll be passing the total post count of Whedonville (which has been around for years) any time now. We shot past the Military (which has also been around forever) forum weeksago.

Not bad for a forum that many scoffed at the idea of. :lol

Yes I trust some people's opinions. They are informed and reliable...

How about you? and who are you to me?

Well, I can understand that. But to say you will NEVER see it, solely based on the opinions of others... it's folly. You will see it eventually and then you will make your own opinion of it, be it good or bad.

Hell, I think Speed Racer looks like the most insanely horrible movie ever made.. but will I watch it eventually... I'm sure I will. Just to see if I was right and form my own ideas about it. Right now I only have what I have seen during my walks in the theaters as I worked.

I know this feeling. The feeling I know more though is that I often feel that God is ^^^^ing with me for his own enjoyment. I feel moments of irony and feel literally like I'm in a comedy more times then not and usually on an every other day basis. The weird thing is that when my faith is tested, really tested something occurs to set it straight again (raised Catholic keep that in mind) only to have it be tested once again. Its almost like I fail the original test so I'm rebooted only to fail again.......Often times I feel like a yo-yo over and over, looking up and damning the skies only to have things right themselves almost completely only to have something else happen. I've pretty much accepted that I'm a celestal joke more often then not but I'm okay with that.
